Hi

I have had this problem for a little while now whereby Windows XP Pro won't start due to the windows\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM as it is either missing or corrupt.

I did try the options posted in the sticky thread of the forum along with some other ideas from google searches. I have tried the novatech XP Pro SP2 Recovery CD-Rom several times but just before the licence page pops up I get the BSOD stating BAD_POOL_CALLER every time. Along with that safe mode will not work.

As I have two SATA hard drives in the pc (one with XP PRO, second for data) all I am trying to do is retain data from the data drive to place it onto an external HDD in order to eventually place onto my new Windows 7 system. I am almost giving up but before I do was wondering how I would go about getting data off of the second drive. Obviously the data drive is formatted with the corrupted system but could I just plug it into another XP PC in order to retrieve tha data or is this not possible?

Thanks

James

well from what youve stated that your error is, the data on the drive should be acessible by plugging it into another system or different install.

problems you may encounter are protected folders such as documents and settings\%username%

you may need to take ownership of the files or tell your system to use that folder as your documents and settings folder until you get the data off it.

global variables.

Thanks Matt

Will try the Data drive in another pc, Am I right saying that it should be more or less plug and play or do I need to go into bios to enable i the drive? This is a first fo me tbh

Being SATA, just plug and play. It may need to install drivers and reboot.
