I have had the laptop for a few years and about a year ago the dvd drive stoped reading disks or giving me power calibration faults, additionally it wont boot from a disk either.
It uses the matshita UJ825 B which searching online has found to be an unreliabale drive.
I ordered a replacement sony drive which worked when in an OS but the BIOS failed to pick up the drive so i still could not boot from the drive.
Windows has died (Shock Horror) and i cannot reinstall anything, is the BIOS locked down to a specific drive or how would i go about replacing the drive with somthing the BIOS can detect.
It is the AMD 64 version of the lapto with 1gb of ram, the BIOS has not been updated nor am i now in a position to updated it being as the BIOS does not boot from USB either. I have also tried cleaning the contacts on the drive.
Any suggestions or help will be welcomed.
