This one is for the forum mods to pass on.

Would it be at all possible to get detailed info on the power supplies your selling.

Mainpoint being: List the psu's rating across all its rails.

Else someone who isn't quite sure of what they're after may buy a 500w unit thinking it will supply all his needs, and find that its underpowered on say the 12v rail.

Just a suggestion which is there to help shoppers when they come in or look online.

If you know the manufacturer of the PSU that's for sale you should be able to get that information from their website. Certainly the main brands like Enermax, Antec, Tagan, Nexus, etc all list it.

Maybe, rather than replicating the information, a link from the sales page to the manufacturers page would be useful? This avoids problems if the manufacturer changes the spec without telling anyone too. :)

True

but you know as well as i, that the average spudnik lookin for parts doesn't always bother to check what he's after.

Was something i did many moons ago when chasing for a replacement processor for my (very) old P150. I opted for an evergreen233 upgrade chip, which supposedly was suitable, yet could never get it running, even the people i bought it from couldn't (big company who're are always advertising on tv, whom if you do buy a machine from, then doom on you, it will haunt you for sure. cause it did me till i scrapped it.)

This is my point, if someone can find relevant info without having to do extra looking, then they buy quicker.

and besides, whats 3 lines of pertinent information compared to what elese is on the page.
Certainly a lot more relevant than a review saying that it *fitted first time, has more power than my old 350 and can run all my peripherals*

I know what you're saying, but you have to ask if the average spudnik will actually know what current they need on each rail or even how to work it out?

Agreed

But if someone asks me for advice, i don't just say get a 500w i tell em to find one with at least so much on this or that rail.
If they can look at a site and see what they are after they're more likely to buy from there than google for info and have a similar company that has the details on the site. They may just buy from them instead.

Maybe im just making these folks lazy while giving traders more to do :D

Last machine i built for someone, i had to explain why i had picked what i had to meet his desired spec. painful and annoying as he's clever, but somewhat hard to get through to if you catch my drift

It would be nice if some nice pc component supplier provided an online calculator so we can work these things out...

I use a couple of quick rules to work it out..

1 - is it shiny?
2 - has it got loads of fans in it?
3 - has it got a big number on it?
4 - is it still shiny?
4 - what is the maximum dog hair throughput per minute?

If the numbers add up to more than A over C devided by 12 then I buy it...

HEHEH

my big factors are
1. Is it shiny
2. Will the missus let me have it.
3. Is it reallllllly cool.
4. WIll the missus buy it for me.
5. Will i have to take the missus out to dinner if i buy it.
