Well, Steve is announcing it atm

So far we have, multi-tasking, changing the wallpaper, folders, better email, iBooks, some Enterprise ****, game networking (like xbox live...) and a crazy new advertising thing

Looking promising atm, building on things jailbreakers have been using for a while, but the UI looks slick...

This may stop me jailbreaking!

I'll update as more comes, or you can follow here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/08/live-from-apples-iphone-os-4-event/?sort=newest&refresh=60

gaaaay, only the 3gs and 3rd gen touch will be able to utilise it properly. No multi-tasking for 2nd Gen and 3g? WTF, i can multi task on mine when jailbroken... : /

hmm I don't like the idea of ads on my phone - If I wanted adds I'd watch the TV or turn off pop ups in IE (and start using it :)).

Is there any release date announced?

I think they're just better versions of the ones inside apps. But if you click on em, instead of losing whatever you're doing, it opens up a sort of inner app, inside your current one. Allowing you to play games, buy merchandise, cinema tickets and find the locations...

Summer some point for iPhone and iPod, "Fall" for iPad... Autumn is that?

Yep Fall is the American version of Autumn. Atleast they didn't try and re-spell it like "Ortum" or something (re colour and color) ;)

aha

Jobs has said a flat No to any thoughts of flash or Java, disappointing... Hopefully HTML5 will become more mainstream now

In the Q and A...

Ryan Block from GDGT: What about running unsigned apps? Steve: You know, there's a **** store for Android. Anyone can download them. You can, your kids can. That's just not a place we want to go.

Crumbs Steve... we just want stuff that is not constantly policed by Apple...

I'm glad no to flash. Really hate that. I dislike things I can't see any point in...

Ads I can live with IF IF IF my phone and contract is free. I pay, I want no ads. Which is a reason I dislike flash - all it seems to do is allow ads to download and work on my computer... Don't have flash installed = no wierdo pop ups, no changing mouse pointers and no 'in browser windows' the size of jupiter popping up when you accidently move your mouse over them to get to the 'go back' button. Seriously, some websites are turning this into a sport the amount of dodging and scrolling you need to do.

I think the ads will only be in the free apps, as before. As a way o he devs makin some money when they're giving away the app.
The advertising isn't really anything fe thee user to be excited about, except that it means that if we accidentally click on one then our current app won't close... Yippee! :p

The multitasking looks slick. And being able to change the wallpaper is win (although, why this wasn't included from the year dot is baffling)

Agreed. These 2 things are some of the main causes of jailbreaking, if Apple want to cut down on it, they need the 'vanilla' os to be more functional

I would have liked to see an icon customisation thing going.. If remes could be stores on your computers iTunes and switched in when syncing, they would take up no space and allow for more freedom, cos **** I hate the default ones :p

Im sort of upset that there is no Multitasking for the 3G :( But I understand, mine does seem to struggle sometimes with just 1 app open let alone 2. The 3GS must have created with these updates in mind.

And I already have ads in some of my apps so not really bothered with that one! I just want to see how the Windows Mobile 7 comes on, first opinions are awesome! I shall have to see more before it sways me from buying an v4 iPhone though.
