Thinking of building a pc with a novatech motherboard bundle and could someone tell me which one of these 2 pc's would be better at gaming.
Core 2 duo 6550
2gb ddr2 667mhz
320gb sata
8600gt 512mb
vista home basic 32bit
or
core 2 duo 6300
4gb ddr2 667mhz
320gb sata
8600gt 512mb
vista home basiv 64 bit
Hi,
Well the first option has the better processor
The second option has 4gb of ram which is slight over kill 3gb should be plenty at max, (I have heard that 4GB of RAM have actually caused a decrease in performance on win xp, don’t know about vista thou.
Graphics wise there both the same so no difference there.
BUT why are you going for vista basic!!!!!! there is no point buying vista basic, especially considering the home premium is only slightly more expensive, and I would advise you not to go with 64bit version, the amount of people having trouble with the 64bit version is huge, you only need this if you are planning on using 64bit application, and I have yet to see one that is not offered in 32bit,

If you want a good gaming pc i wouldnt get vista at all with that gpu. Your fps will be pretty awful, unless you really want to use dx10 (if so you will really need an 8800 gts with vista), if not why not go for xp and get an ati x1950 which will far outperform an 8600. And the 1st option of cpu would be better if your not an overclocker

See for your self.
vista is fine
x64 is fine
I don't know what everyone is squakking about.
The only thing i have against vista is all of its DRM and thats only because its hurting performance. I don't need DRM, i'm 100% legal (now) :D
