View Full Version : themes anyone?
anyone using a decent theme on ubunutu or something equivalent? iv been looking out for a good one, im a total sucker for gimmicks but the main sites that have them seem like you need prior knowledge on how to tweak this and that (which i dont have) instead of something that can simply be downloaded and inistalled.
at the moment i have what iv got in the pic, i.e shadows around the taskbar (which keeps diappearing, annoying...) Cairo dock, and somethin a bit similar to windoze 7 in terms of seethrough thick boarders on the windows...but its not great :(

Theme.101. Easy way to i theme
Try to make a tut. on installing new themes via theme manger(easy way)
1.Download a theme(preferably "Gnome-Look.org".
2.Make sure theme is not opened in Archive Manger but saved on disk(desktop).
3.Open theme via right click and open with Archive Manger extract Theme to desktop.
4.Right click desktop(not in Places>>Desktop)
5.Then click Change Desktop Background
6.Click the "Theme" tab.nstall
7.Click-n-drag downloaded theme to the "themes" tab make sure it is droped on the blank space.
8.Wait for theme to install(app. 2-10 sec.)
9.Then click the "Apply Theme Button"
10.Restart computer(*NOT REQUIRED*) but is a for sure way to no the them is currently working
"!!!!~~S~~H~~O~~U~~L~~D"!!!!"~~F~~A~~Q~~S!!!!"
1.Some Themes come with 1 or more files be sure to extract the "Theme"file most other ones are pretty much useless.
2.SOME THEME WELL MESS UP UR COMPUTER(not vary bad).
3.You can use this process to install other things like Icons and even Emerald Themes(sudo apt-get install emerald)if you would like to have it(almost another theme manger but its used for stuff like Windows Borders
4.IM NOT THE PERSON WHO FOUND THIS IDEA!!!(i think lol)
5.IM AM NOT gunna be held responsible for anything you do(means do this at your own "!RISK!")
GO out and have fun this is a really easy way to install themes because i personaly dont like going thro a longer processes(some you might have to use the longer processes in some cases).
!!DONT NOT USE X11 curser themes with this process it wont work or at least it never did for me.
Maybe this is helpful if your new to it?
ahhh thank you. so you dont use anything like emerald themes?

I haven't used ubuntu for quite some time now, however I used to use themes from gnome-look and beryl for some sweet effects.
However if you are getting into linux OS's, can I recommend Open Suse with KDE, check out these screenshots (http://en.opensuse.org/Screenshots/11.2).
Its what I have been using lately and I prefer it to Ubuntu.
Just a suggestion :)
ooo does look pretty. had ubunutu for a while now, so wat i might do is dual boot witht that rather than scrappin ubuntu altogether. although that site u said has some great backrounds, thanks!
