Several months ago I purchased a Belkin usb 2.0 and firewire 6-port pci card from Novatech and installed it into a Dell Dimension 8200 running W2000. I wanted the firewire to transfer video from my Sony DCR-HC37 camcorder.
I have spent many hours trying to get this hardware to work with the camcorder. The software that came with the camcorder (Sony Picture Utility) recognises all the connections and starts the download but then completely freezes the pc after just a few seconds. I have tried WinDV software as suggested on several forums but that also freezes the pc.
I have recently bought a newer Dell pc running Xp and installed the Belkin pci card. Unfortunately I get exactly the same result with the PC freezing.
Is the problem the Belkin card? Or is it the Sony camcorder?
I would be grareful of any suggestions.
Thanks

Go to the belkin website and make sure you have the up to date software and drivers for your product, I must admit that I have only ever used windows movie maker to capture from my camcorder.
