Sound screech

My daughter has a new Xplora E16 running Ubuntu 9.04.
Recently the machine gives a loud screech when the lid is being closed.
It stops if the lid is reopened
Muting the sound doesn't help
Can anyone solve this for me please?

WD40 didn't work, but found the front mic boost at full, wound it down and solved the problem
