Ubuntu has been installed onto a Novatech nnb-801 laptop. The laptop is functioning well, but the webcam is not working. The linux kernel version is 2.6.32-22-generic.

How can I get the webcam to work?

Thank you!

Erm...how about giving us some more info?

Like where are you even using the webcam, what program?

The webcam is built into the laptop. I would like to be able to use it just to take a picture, for example using cheese (http://projects.gnome.org/cheese/).

At the moment, no device is recognized, so I canīt use the webcam with any application.

Installing cheese usually installs webcam drivers automatically. Are you sure the webcam is turned on as in linux instead of reporting it as turned off it will report it as disconnected.

To turn it on on my laptop it is Fn + F7 but it may be different for you. You have to close cheese before you turn the webcam on then start it again.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, that might help in the future, but right now it doesnīt. Actually, the camera key on this laptop appears to be F10.

My daughter and I both have Novatech Xplora E16 laptops.
My installed webcam worked right away, but my daughter's didn't.
Turned out they were different cameras, and I had to get and install the driver for her.
I haven't got access to her lappie for more detail now, but this may point you in the right direction. Her cam is a Bison, IIRC.
