When my friend Jeremy told me his Novatech PC had a bit of a virus problem, doubtless from following all those spam Pron links in this forum, and wouldn't boot, I naturally offered to have a look. Big mistake. It was the lost weekend for me...

This is a 3yo Novatech ECS L7VTA Athlon 1800+ photographed after I cleaned it. It was completely encrusted in brown tar from smoking, and full of fluff.

Here's how it panned out:
Scratched Windows XP and Drivers disks. Unusable.
Dismantled and cleaned CPU heatsink and fan, added voltage reduction cable to quieten it.
Intake fan grinding, and graphics fan failed.
Replaced flaky Maxtor 80GB HD, reading at 20% of normal speed.
Failed LAN chip. Ran internet off USB.
Both Opticals hardly able to open for grime.
Floppy needed hoovering.
Cleaned power supply.
Reinstalled Windows after disabling LAN in bios and created ghost cloned backup partition.

Otherwise, I was quite impressed, especially with the power supply and cooling. Anyway, it's running fine now. 8)

i found air compressors the best way of cleaning pc's, though I imagine they would also remove loose components from the motherboard...
