Hi All,

I am in desperate need of an upgrade... well.... more of a fresh build than an upgrade...

My Currant Specs:
1.8 GHz Processor
1GB Ram
NVidia 5600FX
IDE HDD
and some crappy PSU that makes a high pitched noise xD

What I'm After
I am a massive COD fan... i haven't played MW2 yet, and i refuse to play it until i can sit down and complete it in one session. As you can see i am never in a million years going to be able to play CODMW2 on my computer. I have around £750-£1000 to spend on my new computer, i'm more of an intel man, but i will settle with AMD if need be ;P

EDIT: Everything under my currant specs needs replacing

What I Already Have
ATX and MicroATX cases
Keyboard & Mouse
VGA Moniter
Microsoft XP SP2 is the OS I use

So can anyone help me out please?

Happy days in the CPU/motherboard stakes for gamers these days. :)

AMD X6 1055T and Crossfire motherboard:

Intel i5 750 and Crossfire:

Not much in it, TBH. 1 0r 2 HD5770 cards or a HD5850 and a 700W OCZ PSU and you are golden. Probably need some SATA drives too. Nice.

Thanks, I was looking at the AMD 6core earlier

Yeah, i'm bored of Repping the good old IDE
its only since i started my first job, and the computer i work on everything happens nearly instantly, then when i would go home it would just feel like everything is taking an age to do LoL

EDIT: Just realised, if i go to SATA, I'mm gonna need new HDD's & Optical Drives, still think i could get a decent Rig for £750-£1000?

You can usually wire up an IDE DVD drive, but a new SATA hard drive is essential.

Your monitor size plays a part in choosing graphics. The HD 5770 is probably a bit pushed at 1920X1200, but fine at 1440X900.

If you compromise a bit on the motherboard, an Athlon II X4 630 and a Asus 785G or 880G EVO motherboard will do well on single middling graphics like HD5770 and a 500W PSU. The two boards I quoted initially are pretty high end. :D

That budget will get you a very nice system, particularly if you're already covered with OS and some of the little peripherals.

I assume you are wanting to build you own computer here and not go for a pre-build system?

Will the machine be used for anything other than gaming?

What is the maximum resolution of your monitor?

Umm, not too sure what my max resolution is, as i always have it set to 1280x720, its about 22", widescreen, Not HD :(
EDIT: but i do know it can go higher.

And yeah, the computer is pretty much just a gaming computer, its offline, as i use my notebook for internet.

Yeah, i want to build the system myself, i will go for bundles, as i have seen some good ones there. But i've never actually bought anything for my computer myself before, so its all a first time experiance xD

probably best to stick to a bundle then, it gets all the long and complex bits out of the way.

most motherboards will have a ide slot so that allows for 2 drives probably best to be disk drives.

and if your monetor can go higher then 720 then it is HD, may not be full HD but still HD
