Just been having some fun with overclocking my e6600 managed to get it stable at 3.7 fsb1645 (411.5*9), 1.6 volts. Cooling with Tt v1 idling at 33c and maxing at 48c. God i love these chips!!!!

30-09-2007, 02:35 PM
Lol oh well 4*2.4 isnt to be sniffed at though is it!!!
teknokid
30-09-2007, 03:38 PM
css is a lot slower though, as it can only use 1 core. a big poo

wait until they update it, why?? how many frames are you getting 200??
Jonny2Bad
30-09-2007, 07:20 PM
Update what? yeah i know got to be 200 + lol
Jonny2Bad
30-09-2007, 07:33 PM
And cant be that much slower as you were dual core b4 and the only oc to 3g so cant be that much slower surely its only .6. Run the wizard to see how many fps your getting!!
teknokid
01-10-2007, 05:19 PM
i get abouut 200 lol, wirth aa and as off now, had them on b4 tho.

01-10-2007, 05:19 PM
btwim gna mod my mobo so i can use my quad, as theres no revisions.
Jonny2Bad
01-10-2007, 05:28 PM
How u gonna do that?
JDowdall
01-10-2007, 06:02 PM
that is a good question
teknokid
01-10-2007, 06:36 PM
well, i read a guide, but after reading again with actually doing it in mind it seems like a very bad idea.
However, my bad, is gonna ring asus and give him a bit of the angry treatment and see what we can get out of them?
Jonny2Bad
01-10-2007, 06:52 PM
yeah didnt think that in anyway it could be a good idea lol!!!!
teknokid
01-10-2007, 07:05 PM
nope lol, your overclock still going good?
Jonny2Bad
01-10-2007, 07:09 PM
Yes not 1 glitch in the matrix as yet, gonna have a good gaming sesh in a bit to really give it a work out but its been on 4 over 24 hrs now and not skipped a beat 3.7 on air with temps not going over 50c, pretty mental!!!
teknokid
01-10-2007, 08:21 PM
have yo tried proper orthos stress testing?

Ah so you're an asus virgin. They are awful at customer support. Good luck.

I had heavy load on for an hour or so to test the temps and it was fine so sort of!!
teknokid
02-10-2007, 05:10 PM
kool, wicked overclock then
Jonny2Bad
02-10-2007, 07:40 PM
Yeah still a bit shocked actually its stayed really stable!!
teknokid
03-10-2007, 07:12 PM
yes, its amazing a striker was that good as well. but 1.6v is a lot, but not horendous for 24 7
Jonny2Bad
03-10-2007, 08:13 PM
No it likes it doesnt give me any probs at all im sure the temps have loads to do with that but heh whatever its working and stable so nice little overclock i reckon

03-10-2007, 08:27 PM
i wish mine could do that
lol
in my dreams
teknokid
03-10-2007, 08:51 PM
and myn, my e6600 would never have got that far.
Jonny2Bad
03-10-2007, 09:01 PM
Lol you said you were gonna get 1 of those v1's tax. Proper good air cooler to keep that overclock working and stable

cant seem to find any in my local computer stores, n i wont be able to pick it up for delivery cos of constant work commitments :(

03-10-2007, 09:52 PM
No good m8, what cpu you got?
Jonny2Bad
03-10-2007, 09:53 PM
When my son had my old p4 3.2 it idled at over 40 with the v1 it was down too 33 that loads off a p4, really nice cpu cooler, looks the part too

ive got a X2 3800 skt 939, ive re applied paste, rubbed old stuff off etc, but idle temps are 46
Jonny2Bad
03-10-2007, 10:12 PM
how much paste you applied and how did you apply it?
Taxation
03-10-2007, 11:32 PM
i put enough to cover the cpu thinly and applied by spreading it with the heatsink shoved on lifted then applied more if needed.
I think its the motherboard, cos my old one with same cpu nd heatsink was much cooler, used to idle at 38, 44 load
Jonny2Bad
04-10-2007, 02:51 PM
Best to put the tiniest blob on the cpu then spread it with your finger covered in a bit of a plastic bag that way you ger a tiny thin layer evenly spread over the whole cpu thats all you need. The size of a rice grain will do it!!
teknokid
04-10-2007, 06:31 PM
put ure hand in a plastic bag, and rub a small bit of paste on, really thin is the key!!

04-10-2007, 07:23 PM
i do know how to do it, ive done it several times, temps have only gone up since my new mobo cos the old one broke :(
Jonny2Bad
04-10-2007, 08:48 PM
seems strange buddy not trying to teach you how to suck eggs by the way!! Id the hsf seated properly somethimes they can get a bent pin and not quite sit properly
teknokid
05-10-2007, 04:20 PM
amd don't use pins
Jonny2Bad
05-10-2007, 04:31 PM
Oops forgot he had amd so the hsf wont have pins to be bent lol!!
teknokid
06-10-2007, 02:19 PM
yup, maybe you just need water cooling :P
Jonny2Bad
06-10-2007, 09:40 PM
Lol tek i got a better o/c on air than u have on water its over rated with the high standards of hsf out these days!!!
teknokid
07-10-2007, 06:42 PM
I know, but a good set-up is better than air, myn was 40 quid and is rather awful
Jonny2Bad
07-10-2007, 09:05 PM
Yes but how much better, ive got 3.7 on air whats the max on water? another .3 or .4 that acually in performance terms is nothing probably wouldnt even break the 200 in 3dmark06 so for my £30 hsf your gonna spend how much to gain an extra few points, more money than sense i think.
Taxation
09-10-2007, 10:33 PM
mate you could have the best cooling set-up in the world, but whats the point in spending all that money for 2 more frames or 50 more points in 3dmark etc.
People that obsess about these numbers better check their priorities rather than their systems performance.
Spending that much on computer equipment is in my eyes ludacrus
but whats the point in spending all that money for 2 more frames or 50 more points in 3dmark etc.
yay, my thoughts exactly - is why i have a laptop now! though i can certainly see the point in overclocking , i just can't see the point in spending 5 hours to get an extra 5fsb (anymore lol)
that said i'm sat here loking at my empty water cooled chassis wondering what to do with it... may try and make a VERY quiet pc rather than the 'just quiet' it used to be.
Nox
teknokid
10-10-2007, 03:13 PM
yeah, but water can cool everything, not just cpu.
I know its a lot of money, but you get a **** quiet, very fast pc at the end of it
Jonny2Bad
10-10-2007, 04:33 PM
Well i fail to see how much more quiet 3 fans cooling your rad can be than just 1 fan cooling a cpu, my fan is only running at 1500 rpm it's quiet as a mouse and i have a 3.7 o/c so i think your point is a little off tbh! My v1 cost less Than £30 and i have a better oc than you managed with water surely even you can see what im saying your gonna spend x amount extra on getting another .3 or .4 out of your cpu that will put you 100 points above me on 3dmark lol!!!
teknokid
10-10-2007, 05:17 PM
yes, i can see what you mean, however my overclock wasnt stopped due to temps, but rather volts, i didnt like 24/7 @ 1.55v for 3.5ghz. However you are still gettting better temps than me, but my water cooling only cost £10 more and is rather rubbish and budget.
The idea is you have your rad fans running real slow, makes ure pc very quiet and amazingly cool :)
Jonny2Bad
10-10-2007, 06:12 PM
But to get over 3.5 on any chip you need to pass 1.55v so how you gonna manage a killer o/c without passing the 1.55v mark? I'll be honest my 3.7 is very stable at 1.6v it may shorten the life of my chip but in real life terms how long will i have this chip for? And with such low temps how much will it reall shorten it by, I do like your ideas and your willing to try stuff but you do contradict (bad spelling i think) yourself sometimes. Remember the q6600 is only 2 e6600's side by side so with your new system you will have to pass 1.6v for your killer o/c
teknokid
12-10-2007, 03:18 PM
with my new chip, im happy going up past 1.6v. With my old one, i was told it was bad to go over 1.55v, so i never tried it silly me, and the temps werent very good there either, so it was proberably best to stop anyway.

my temps have finally fallen, did some thermal paste adjustements, smeared the bit round the edges into the middle then replaced

quite a good improvement
JDowdall
18-10-2007, 10:25 PM
wat temp monitoring tool is that and can someone please tell me how 2 embed those pics cos im clueless
Jonny2Bad
18-10-2007, 10:27 PM
Thats more like it tax the thermal grease is so important to get right i do it with a rice grain size on the cpu then rub it in with cling filmed finger really thin but no gaps in the paste thats how i get such good temps with my v1 im sure!!
Taxation
18-10-2007, 10:30 PM
i took the heatsink off and it was quite thin anyway, so i just re smeared it into the middle
and JDowdall im using "core temp", but you can also use speed fan, if im not mistaken.
And to put images up like that
you get the whole link
eg. https://picture.com
then you add ""%20to%20the%20front%20and%20%20"" at the end
so you get
https://picture.com
then preview it to make sure it works first, then submit

just left my comp for ages, closed door, open window, 26 degreesC :D
Closed the window and went straight back to 33, then has climbed and steadied itself to 36-38

God dam u lot and ur good ventilation and cooling! im running 55 degrees on my cpu and 70 on my graphics just on the desktop! if i run anything more graphically complex than counter strike i have 2 UNDERCLOCK my graphics card 2 actually play it 4 a while without it crashing! any1 know of any good vga coolers? i mite fork out on another cpu cooler 2 lyk johnny's but i dno if it will be worth it
Jonny2Bad
20-10-2007, 07:58 AM
It would be worth it, it has a fan in the middle which would help the airflow in your case loads!!
JDowdall
20-10-2007, 01:17 PM
lol i thort the same about my freezer 7 pro which has a 92mm fan on the front but uno
teknokid
20-10-2007, 02:03 PM
nah, freezer 7 pro is still one of the best around, you need better case airflow i think, to get air to the HSF
JDowdall
20-10-2007, 02:07 PM
yh i think thats the main problem the airflow in my case is pretty non existent
Jonny2Bad
20-10-2007, 02:27 PM
Well v1 will defo help with that!!!
Jonny2Bad
20-10-2007, 07:24 PM
And better thermal grease application lol!!
