Just wondering if i could format my hdd and reinstall vista? i got the oem version so is that ok?
heres my spec

asrock conroe ddr1333d667
2gb ddr 667mhz
320gb hdd
vista home premium
xpertvision 8600gt

I'm guessing you have ntl and live in portsmouth.
The net was really slow tonight.
My guess is the students are back in town and probably caused a huge overload in bandwidth. Hopefully this doesn't happen every day.

Ok
Have you checked for Updated BIOS
Updated Hardware Drivers?
Have you changed anything recently that might cause the Lag.
Game Patches??
What kind of line speed have you got. Do you have issues with just games or does download of files also slower than normal.
System lagging doing other things other than games??

All my drivers are up to date, just checked them all now. I don't think i've changed anything that might cause it, just started randomly yesterday. I got 8mb broadband and i'm on wireless, so i'm checking my router's settings now. Apart from games everything seems fine, normal download speeds and internet browsing seems as fast as normal. Also none of the other computers on my network are experiencing any problems.

Whats the signal strength of your wireless, is the router near anything metal??
How are the temps?? i know that when mine get too high that my wireless suffers for some reason

Signal strength is usually full, but sometimes drops to 3/4. (it was like this on my old system but i never had any lag problems before) All my temps are Less than 30, except my gpu which is at 42. there is nothing near me that would interupt my signal :(

I know this used to cause people to have stangely high ping in games even though there was no traffic on the network.

Already tried, made no difference. I think i'm going to reinstall vista, hopefully it'll get rid of it.

Just done a test on speedtest.net, my ping on that is 55ms, and my downstream is 2655kps, and upstream is 324kb yet in all my games my ping is 400+

Ouch!!! Have you checked with your isp or tried another pc on the same connection?

Yeah, 2 other computers on same network are perfectly normal. ISP can't see the problem so it must be with my computer

I just can't work out why it only comes up with games, everything else says my connection is good, and my download speeds are faster than ever :(

Ah now that really doesnt make sense it must be a setting somewhere!
Have you tried putting your PC in a DMZ or connecting it directly to your modem.

Yeah tried that, as well as forwarding ports and turning off the firewall on my router, none of which made any difference whatsoever. Also just reset my router back to its factory settings, again it didn't make any difference.

:D :D :D Think i may have sorted it, after getting really annoyed last night i thought i might try reinstalling vista again, so i did that. Then just after doing that i wondered if a little bit of overcloclocking would make any difference, so i upped my fsb 5 at a time, testing stability on the moh airborne demo. Now its at 260x9 (2.34Ghz) and i just reinstalled my t'internet played counter strike source with a ping of 45!!!!! running at 150fps with everything maxed out @ 1024x768.
Hopefully it won't start lagging again :)

I still don't have a clue what it was, i'm guessing it was some setting in vista somewhere, but like i said i don't actually know.
