I recently purcahsed this
https://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spe ... AM-40%2F1G (https://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?RAM-40%2F1G)
and i found out my comp is non-ECC.
1) Is that non ecc or not ?
2) And if know one knows what effect will it have on my comp if it is ECC.
3) Also if it will nealry break my comp then how can i change my order to:
this if its DRR 3200, 400mhz
https://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spe ... ?CSR-VS401 (https://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?CSR-VS401)
alot to ask but this is quite important
plz help soon :D

This memory is NON-ECC
ECC memory at worst would not POST if you board could not talk to it. It should not do anything else. ECC just has extra bits for Error Checking and normally is only used and supported on Server Boards.
The RAM you have ordered is not ECC and should be fine for you.

are you sure cause on crucial it said my comp is non ECC and all the other non ECC memory as non-ECC in there name

It should not be ECC Memory and as i said will not cause any harm. The ECC part of the module cannot be used unless you have a mainboard and BIOS that supports the ECC function.
If you have standard desktop board then yes it will be NON ECC. This is standard for most desktop boards. We do not supply ECC module from that Code. If you want me to confirm further than please provide make and model of module you have.

At this point it might be worth speaking to our technical support.
There should be no issue it should be click in and go.
The bit i find strange is the fact the power LED is flashing i am not sure why that is.
What mainboard do you have and BIOS version as this might be worth checking.
virtudes
12-10-2007, 10:21 AM
how can i find this out?

Did you buy or build your computer??
The mainboard will have make and model number printed on it.
Once we know that we can tell you were to look for BIOS version

What Make and Model is your computer??
The board if it is standard board would have the make and model printed on it but where exactly will vary from board to board.

heres what it said from crucial:
Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
Currently Installed Memory: 256MB
Available Memory Slots: 1
Number of Banks: 2
Dual Channel Support: No
CPU Manufacturer: AuthenticAMD
CPU Family: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+ Model 12, Stepping 2
CPU Speed: 1808 MHz
The name of this model may not exactly match the model description of your system, our system scanner could not identify a specific model name when evaluating your computer. However, it was able to identify the motherboard your system utilizes.
Q: Will my system recognize the maximum upgrade?
A: Possibly
How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.
Q: What memory goes into my computer, and can I mix speeds?
A: DDR memory with support for DDR PC3200 speeds.
Because DDR memory is backward-compatible, you can safely upgrade your system with any of the guaranteed-compatible DDR speeds listed below, even if your manual calls for PC1600 or PC2100 speeds.
Q: How much memory can my computer handle?
A: 2048MB.
Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve performance and help extend the useful life of your system as you run increasingly demanding software applications in the future.
Q: Do I have to install matching pairs?
A: No.
No, you can install modules one at a time, and you can mix different densities of modules in your computer. But if your computer supports dual-channel memory configurations, you should install in identical pairs (preferably in kits) for optimal performance.
Q: Does my computer support dual-channel memory?
A: No.
Your system does not support dual channel.
Q: Does my computer support ECC memory?
A: No.
Your system does not support ECC. Because ECC and non-ECC modules should not be mixed within a system, install the same type of modules that are already in your system.

You need more info here. Download CPU-Z and PC Wizard, and it will tell you lots.http://www.cpuid.com/index.php
Especially what memory you have already got. What the socket type is, and the chipset.
The classic trick to get memory working is to fit the stick, and then take out the Bios battery for 5 minutes with the power UNPLUGGED.
Then start up and you should be able to enter time and date in the bios, save changes and exit. F2 or DEL are the common keys to enter bios.
But it could be a bad stick, high density, or have suffered static damage.

Hmmm as far as BIOS is concerned you would need to speak to Packard Bell directly. I don't want to get involved to much with the inner workings of there machine as without a good break down of there system components and setup it might get messy.
However from the data we can see so far it would appear your board has two slots for Ram. With a max memory capacity of 2GB. This means that you are going to need two 1 GB sticks that are double sided. No single sided 1GB Sticks.
What was packard Bell's model number for your Machine?? We need to know what its called so we can try and find out some info about it

ok ill go check later. its on a sticker at the side right?
isnt the stick i brought 2 sided. the big black things on the sides right. (chips?) and if thats right on the one from my comp that was thier already it only had the chips? on one side only
Coops
19-10-2007, 07:02 AM
Yes your 1GB Sticks will need to have chipset on both sides.
512mb, 256mb, 128mb Sticks will be ok with chips on just on side.
This is because your system board appears to support addressing up to 512mb per side. So therefore to use 1GB Ram sticks you must get double sided. ie 512mb per side.
Could be on the side but i thought would be on the back. It should have a packard bell sticker and hopefully it should then Say Model
Just tell us whatever you can find =)

I would think you'll have more luck with the Corsair Value Select stuff. Value ranges are usually low density for compatibility. Motherboards with just two memory slots usually prefer it.
2X 512MB might work best for dual channel too.

Novatech are very good on exchanging memory in my experience. Give them a ring, and they'll sort it out for you. Memory is a bit of an inexact science, you often don't know till you try it. And shop bought systems often have a limited bios setup, so you can't do much about it.
Two of these from the same batch will probably be OK too:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?RAM-40/512
I don't know what Coops thinks.
512MB sticks usually sidestep the density issue, but yes, that Corsair pair looks the best bet.
