im building a new computer with a asus blitz formula special edition motherboard, a 500GB and a 160GB HDD, Corsair 3GB (2GB + 1GB)800MHz DDR2 RAM, DVD Re-writer, and either two X1950 XTX in crossfire mode or a HD 2900XT 1024MB graphics card and i'm not sure what size PSU i'll need.Any recommendations. Thanks in advance, Paul

instead of spending all that money on those gfx why not just get 8800 gtx which outperforms all of your suggestions for the same as the 2900 1024mb which doesnt even come close? and anything over 500w from either hiper, Tt, corsair will do for that set up!! It sounds like im a big nvidia fan but all myu cards up till now have been ati, but the 8800 series just kicks *** right now and that cant be ignored when your gonna spend £200+ on a gpu. So get an 8800 will out do the 1950 in xfire and the 2900 by loads!!

How much do you want to spend?
I'd recommend this.
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prod ... p0s0n0m268 (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/products/a559x1y0z1p0s0n0m268)
this

or this

All these will meet your needs easily, and give you some headroom for 'clocking, and will future proof you too.
If they are too expensive then this will also cover you.

now the x2900xt is a fine card with the new drivers and does come level with the gtx in most benchmarks beating it in some dx10 games

not many tho buddy the gtx is still the card of choice for now i think the next ati card might be the 1 though
ignore crossfire/sli, unless you plan to run two of the top end cards. ie two 8800gtx's or two 2900XT's
generally speaking re PSU's, get a good brand. Its the heart of your computer. Hiper are good enough (nb. NOT Hyper), thermaltake, enermax, corsair, ocz, PCP&C, kind of gone from good to great in that list, and its not exclusive. And 500w should be fine from a decent brand.

agreed, looking at your spec, are you running 3 sticks of gb ram? if so you want 4 or 2, or you will loose a fair chunk of performance.
If i was you, i would deffinately go for an nvidia card, the power consumption difference is quite noticeable, which means there is less heat as well.
Ive been very pleased with my 8800gtx, its been running great for almost a year now (i got 1 of the 1st batch of cards).
As for PSU, id go for corsair, there very quiet and are also incredibly powerful (the 620 can power 2 8800gtx's)

you're weird :P No point buying new memory just so you have 4 sticks. £30 saved for a better graphics card or something.
