View Full Version : Can I run 4 IDE drives + 1 SATA Drive?

I recently bought a 300gb sata drive to fit to my W2K system running on an AMD 64/Foxconn barebones system about 1 year old. W2K is right up to date with SPs. One of the IDE channels has a 20gb (system) and a 100gb drive and the other has a cd and a dvd drive. The 100 gb drive is partitioned into 3 .
The sata drive connected fine and I used disk management to format and partition into 3 almost equal partitions with drive letters allocated. But then I noticed that the 100gb drive was not visible and realised that two of the allocated drive letters overlapped with the existing 100GB partitions. I disconnected the sata cable and had a look at the 100gb disk in disk management. The partitions on there were fine and reading some Microsoft literature I converted the 3 partitions into dynamic partitions. I re-connected the sata drive and when I re-booted the system only the IDE drives could be seen.
Is it possible as my subject asks to run 4 IDE drives + 1 SATA Drive? If yes any suggestions how I might go about it?
TIA
Joe

It is possible
Have you installed the S/ata drivers for your motherboard
If not, install them
Try different S/ata ports etc

Thanks for that advice. I downloaded the latest drivers, ran Disk Management, imported the foreign drives and hey presto, there they are in windows explorer.
Thanks again
