not really the right place to be asking in this section - you have confused me slightly saying that you know someone hacks your pc and then you ask how to tell if they are hacking - do you know? or not?

hacking covers such as wide variety of things these days too, what exactly is being done to you pc? are files being tampered with? are you getting viruses or errors??

Sounds like you just have a virus. Most viruses these days disable any antivirus software they find.

Boot into safe mode, click on the start menu and click run, then type "msconfig"

Click on the startup tab and disable any items which look like they don't belong. A virus will usually be listed as a string of garbage. Reboot the PC normally and you should then be able to run the antivirus software to remove whatever you have.

I certainly wouldn't put this down to "someone you know hacking your PC"

Hacking just doesn't work like that

Code Monkey is right (of course :P) a little virus doing that is very common, an easy fix above ^^

my curser used to move by it self

In a particularly deliberate way? Or did it just move randomly very slowly? My old mouse sometimes did that, not sure why but it was getting old and faulty. I think it happens to optical mice sometimes.

so you cant boot into safe mode at all? if not you might as well take the hard drive out, put it in another pc, copy off any docs you want then format and re-install

Quickest and easiest way to "stop hacking" is to disconnect your PC from the internet and see if you get the same symptoms.

If you do it could be a software fault or a hardware fault. Faulty RAm or a Faulty Mouse can do exactly what your decribing. Also it could be a infected Operating system.

Try downloading this http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm and burn it to disk. This contains a load of tools, all that you may require to fix your problem. Be very careful there are some very powerful tools included on this disk. The stuff on this disk is more than capable of screwing up your system if you are not careful!

USE WITH CAUTION!

Very odd old post you have dug up here, Pendragonuk.

Sounds more likely the poor chap has a faulty mouse than that there is a ghost (or haXor) in the machine. :D

The problem of being new to a forum, it's not always easy to pick out the current threads...

I did feel a little odd suggesting the Boot CD, thinking that this guy knows only enough to get himself in serious trouble. But still, it's how we learn, fixing our mistakes...

A sure sign someone is hacking into your computer is when you walk into your room and they stop typing on it, look slightly guilty and start closing down the windows they had open on it. Quite often they'll be wearing a black T Shirt too, with green writing on it - it will help them blend into the terminal box they have open on your screen.

If confronted with someone on your computer you're not expecting - there are really only two courses of action available to you. Sort it or don't sort it.

Hope this helps :D
