Hi guys, just wondering what should I upgrade next for more perfomance in my system? without spending a fortune :D

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 (AM2 socket)
CPU: AMD Athlon II 635 X4
Graphics: Club 3D HD5670
RAM: 2gb corsair XMS2 800mhz
PSU: Corsair CX400w
Cooling is fine, the CPU is running with the stock cooler but temps are good, no OC'ing yet.

I'm thinking the PSU might need a higher wattage for upgrades, and I'm running XP so until I get W7 there's no point adding anymore memory.

All suggestions welcome :D

The case.
A brilliant case is for life. Everything else is discarded.

TBH, I think your whole system is in need of upgrading

wait for a year then replace it all.

is the system doing as you would like it to? win7 will be a good investment that still have years to live.

psu is good enough for a quad and small graphics card you your good.

you could grab a cooler and oc the cpu to gain some more performance.

sofubar, what do you use your system for, if gaming what games do you play.

If you tell us what its used for then we can point you in the right direction.

Of course, I use it for general home use and a good bit of gaming too, a the moment Fallout 3 (buying new vegas on release), R6 Vegas 2, Assassins Creed 2 (buying brotherhood on release), etc.

I actually have another 2gb of identical RAM ready to be added as soon as I invest in W7, so that upgrade is already done. Do you think the HD5670 will keep me playing modern games for a while?

i would look at doing a gpu update, but i would wait a few weeks, the 6 series ati are due for release so i expect the prices of the 5 series will take a little dip.

also is your mobo the SLI edition?

if so you might want to look at going nvidia and getting 2 cards or scrapping that mobo as its pretty old hat and getting one of the newer AM3 mobo's. They are pretty good price wise, the only stinger would be the move to ddr3, but selling your ddr2 would cover most of the cost as ddr2 is commanding high prices still.

ddr3 has almost halved in price 4GB is about £70 now days

yes as f12f12 correctly says 4gb ddr3 ocz is £69.99

so if its in your budget i would look at getting 4gb ddr3 and say a mobo like this that has crossfire, later on then you can upgrade your gpu and get a second one further down the road.
