monitoring software licences

something Im trying to do at my work, gathering up details of various applications on users at different sites but finding it difficult,

for instance, if a user as a copy of Adobe Professional (which IIRC is £300 a licence!) but we dont have the licence code, trying to find away to interogate the machine to get the code, to make sure all our software is legit. The person who used to do all this left a long time ago I think :o/


Who else here does corp IT helpdesk, whats the best way to manage software licences?

I do corp IT, but not licencing - thats handled by the people that sdo the software around.. But I know how it works, we use domain groups and add them into users accounts when they have a valid purchased license for any particular application - in your case, we would (create if necessary) then add them to a 'adobe acrobat standard 6' group. The delivered applications have corp license codes built in with *** licences.
