im not switching because i cant be bothered and my hardware isnt exactly great, only just about runs games on xp.lol
But thats more of a heat problem than anything else
I have never said Vista doesn't work, and is certainly not Sh* as you put it, but it runs slower than XP. I wouldn't mind that so much IF it actually brought anything useful in instead, but as far as I can tell its XP with added monitoring and takes up more system resources, meaning you do need a faster computer to run it...
Personally, I still think Windows 2000 > all

well lets hope that that xsos? will be here soon with dx10.
If not, looks like vistas the only way.
On a plus note, newer games (Quake wars) seem to run better on vista than xp, or it did for me

Reality is that Vista is a new OS designed for New or next Generation Hardware.
I am afraid to say this seems to be the biggest problem i have come acorss with Vista. People running it on old hardware and wondering why things don't work or run slowly. Vista is more of a resource hog but on new kit its not normally a problem.
Well thats my personally opinion. I have used it since it first came out and it was a bit touch and go to begin with but slowly since MS released patches to help improve application performance and also Drivers have started to get a bit better and more optimised it has got much better. I like it and so far everything i have wanted to run has worked even some of the older games. (Run as Administrator fixing most of those).

If it's not broke don't fix it.
Vista offers nothing to me. If I want my computer to nanny me like a 2 year old I'll go buy a mac.
i probably can't understand what you are saying :D

that was meant to say 'it probably can't understand' but was sufficiently amusing to leave unedited :D

I'll go buy a mac.
careful, you'll get arrested

You will find, more and more, that games and other apps will come out which will be geared more towards Vista than XP. Especially games as most devs will want to use DirectX 10, which XP does not support.
This is one of the reasons why it's a good idea to go with Vista with a new system than XP. The main advantage for remaining with XP is that certain older software titles will not want to work on Vista without a lot of help. That advantage will diminish as time goes on and Vista will become the main OS instead of XP.

according to wikipedia it needs a gig of ram, thats alot. so a good new PC would have 2 gig, half of that is gone right away just from just vista.

Well if you love gaming you better think about 4g of ram if you want to match what 2g does on xp!!!
2GB ram here, on a fresh install vista used 48%, but now its settled to 33%. So thats leaving 1.a bit GB for a game...

yep, i got 4gb, and after boot and just idling about 30% of that is munched.
thats over 1gb!!, bit stupid, but 4gb keeps my games going very nicely, never seen more than 60% usage
normally at 80% in windowed mode in DDO

My own PC at home has 2GB Dual Channel DDR400 which works quite well under windows XP Pro and Vista Ultimate. That's with using Call of Duty 4 demo and others.
You'll find that Vista, much like XP, requires a certain amount of RAM to run efficiently (200-300MB). So having 512Mb just doesn't cut it. But 1GB should be fine for most apps and for middle to low end games. 2GB is fine at the moment for high end games (such as Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, etc).
At some point 3GB RAM will be required, but I can't see that happening for quite a while - mostly because:
1) 32 bit versions of windows cannot exceed 3.2 to 3.8GB RAM [dependant on addressing space used by i/o devices] - there are a few exceptions such as PAE (physical address extension) which *some* motherboards/cpu combinations can use.
2) There are some limits to the amount of RAM a single application can address within windows (2GB).
