I have tried to set up a newtowk between a laptop running XP service pack one and Vista but it doesn't want to cooperate. It only shows my 23 folders in the Shared Music folders and not the others (at least another 25) I doesn't show any documents, videos or photos. How can I get it to show all my files. My old laptop had a 40gb hard drive and now there is only 1.5gb free. Is there any other way of transfering the files. I have tried Easy Transfer but it won't let me fo it. Any ideas?

If you right click on the folders you want to share on your network then click on share then you should be able to access the files from elsewhere on your network!!

Do what Jonny said, but if you still can't access them, go on to your options once again, go on sharing, click on the tickbox that say: Other users may change my files (along the lines of that) and tick that if you havn't already, this should give more...
Hope it helps you out

Hey again, I have tried to set up my computer currently running Vista home Premium and tried to connect to my dads laptop which is running XP PRO, I had GREAT difficulties and I eventually gave up, there is just no way in getting it communicate, there might be something that I am doing wrong.. LOL I am not a genius yet.. I'm only 14 XD but if you're going to try, make sure that you use the network setup wizzard ;) used to work a treat for me when I last tried.. I just can't remember how I did it and I can't be bothered to try work it out LOL :P.. Lazy teenagers ayy :D

Taxtation, it is really hard to get the two to communicate with each other, I have got a wireless router which I use to connect to my dads computer but I have Vista and he has XP PRO which makes it easier because Vista sets up all the drivers for me, I use his computer to print. Vista is so much better, if you are having this many problems, just buy an OEM copy of Vista Home Premium or Basic, which ever to suit your needs, you can pick up Home Premium for around 70 quid from Novatech, here is the Hyperlink for both of them:
Basic:

Home Premium 32bit:

Home Premium 64bit:

Do you know what 'bit' your other system is (your Vista system..)? Is it 32 or 64? I recommend that you get both the same bit, I do not like the 64bit opperating system as a lot of the software will currently only work on a 32bit system and most of your hardware too. This is as far as I know and what I have heard/seen from other people :D
Hope that helps you a little.

Turn your firewalls (both pcs) off briefly, try again. If it works then you just need to look at the firewall's exceptions list. Don't forget to turn your firewalls back on again.
For drive mapping:
As a test, create a folder on the XP PC called MYTEST
Set up read/write sharing on the folder (right click, select sharing and security, click on IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE SECURITY RISKS BUT WANT TO SHARE FILES WITHOUT RUNNING THE WIZARD, CLICK HERE.
Go to the Vista PC
Click on START
Click on COMPUTER
In the explorer-like list on the left of the windows, find COMPUTER. Right click on it
Click on MAP NETWORK DRIVE
Select a drive letter which you would like to use (for networks I normally start from Z and head upwards).
Click on BROWSE next FOLDER
Select NETWORK
Select the XP computer's name
Select the MYTEST folder
Click OK.
