View Full Version : Hi
Saying Hi , another Silver Surfer but with keen interetest in OSS, home servers and SuSE Linux. I love to hack about with PyGTK and roll out the odd program or two. I have a very warped sence of humour about Microsoft. Proberbly because my code requires an MS certificate to run properly, and yet malware can just install itself without my knowledge and take over my machine
I do still use XP, I'm so sure about WIn7 as it keeps asking me... "Are you sure?"
Anyway I hope to post a few handy bits and hints that may save someone the silver hair tearing trying to fix the a machine.
Welcome to the forums, T800 :)

Must think about this, but every time I tried I get the message... "Restart Now or this device may not function correctly" LOL

Yeah your probably right  but its still the sort off thing I give to my granny to use because its easy to use (sorry gran). It embraces more features and looks pretty and easy to use. I think we will look back in years to come of how unfit for purpose this all was. If you think about it most systems require some sort of privilege elevation to gain access to the core routines to gain control of the machine. And yet some brain trust thought it would be a good idea to run the browser in the kernel, Doh! This is probably the same person who thought wireless credit cards that don't require a pin is a good idea
Don't get me wrong I just feel for the money you pay for a service pack 2 revamped version of vista you would get something a lot better than a revamped pretty looking version of the some old patched up kernel. For a company that makes billions I would expect a better than than the routine of update patches breaking patches to make it work securely. They proclaim its safer and better yet you have to throw more money at it to make it fit for use on the internet. We pay good money, they make good profits so lets have something that is finished, secure and fit for use on the internet:rant: It could be a nice OS in 5 years time when they stop changing stuff.
And in the name of commercial expedience intrusting such a vulnerable OS with key tasks like security, aircraft, defense, medical equipment and nuclear reactors.... well frankly that scares the **** out me :wee:
