hi ya, as u may expect my first post is in relation to a problem i am having with my pc. Basically my current pc is one i got from novatech, which i have had for 4 1/2 years and for a majority of the time i have been happy with it. It developed a problem within the last year, which keeps reoccurring.

The problem basically started when i went to turn my pc on one day. after 2 secs after turning it on, there started a constant "beeping" sound, coming from the tower. intially pressing reset a couple of times sorted it out. Then when the problem reoccurred again, and resetting didn't work, i tried unplugging and re-inserting the hard disk power cables, to which the pc seemed to respond and started to work again. i guessed the hard disk power cables were just a bit temperamental. but the pc was never fully happy. sometimes when i restarted my pc or turned it on from scratch, this constant "beeping" would continue. recently i thought i had cured it as i got seagate to replace a maxtor hard drive which windows was installed on that sounded very unwell. but just recently, the constant "beeping" has returned. trying different hard disk power cables have come to nothing so i decided to search the net for similar problems. i discovered that the beeping is supposed to mean something specific is wrong. sadly my motherboard manual and the manufacturers website do not tell me what this constant "beeping" means. the google search brought up the possibility that i may have a RAM problem. more specifically it was suggested that there may be dust inbetween the RAM cards and the RAM sockets on the motherboard. so today i cleaned out all the dust from my tower using compressed air. i also took each RAM stick out and cleaned off the pins (with air) and the RAM sockets. After re-inserting them and making sure all the sockets generally in the tower were securly in, i tried starting my pc up again. still all i got was a constant "beeping" so i next tried starting up with only 1 stick of RAM in at a time and tried each one in turn, and also tried them in different RAM sockets on the motherboard, incase one of the sockets or one of the sticks of RAM were faulty. each time, no start up and still a constant "beeping".

the only other thing that came up on my internet search was that the cpu may be overheating. i'm pretty sure its not as if it was, surely the pc would not start up at all, let a lone the few random times it has. also the cpu fan is spinning each time i try to start up the pc. so i find it hard to accept that it is an overheating problem

trouble is i cannot try any software to check the temp on the pc or to test the RAM's health as the pc will not even begin to start up... just keep getting a constant "beep".

I would be greatful if any of ya could offer an potential insight into what may be wrong as to be honest, i am all out of ideas and abit out of my dept and knowledge base

many thanks in advance of course

next step: take out the cpu very carefully and giving it a bit of a clean too, with that compressed air.

Do the beeps sound like any below?

1long, 2 short - Video adapter error - Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly.

Repeating (endless loop) - Memory error - Check for improperly seated or missing memory.

1long, 3short - No video card or bad video RAM - Reseat or replace the video card.

High frequency beeps while running - Overheated CPU Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow.

Repeating High/Low - CPU - Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.

The beeping is a constant, same tone "beep". No gaps or anything, only stops when u turn the pc off (obviously)
