Hi,

New to Linux - but have tried Ubuntu and Fedora. I have a laptop (Sony VAIO FE-28H) which in its day was brilliant, but now it showing signs of age, especially when trying to boot and process day to day tasks.

Would it be worth trying Ubuntu on it as the only operating system?

I also play World Of Warcraft and would like to continue this on my laptop to, would it be easy enough to setup WINE and use that for playing WOW, as i have yet to find a WOW setup dedicated to linux?

Many Thanks,

Dan

Yes Ubuntu would be worth trying. You may have issues with hardware but ubuntu 10.10 is more compatible than ever.

A lot of people play WOW in wine with no issues. I suggest you look at the wine page for wow.

You may be better off using playonlinux as it controls how certain games (such as wow) are installed and slightly modified for wine.

I'll give it a try when i get a chance to back up my computer. Playonlinux does look like a good (and straight forward) way of using WOW on Wine, over Linux.

Thanks

You could also try PCLinuxOS. It has a few flavours and works very well with Wine and Play on Linux. Runs my GTA SA on linux at top speed. Also loads of other games such as NFS Undercover Underground 2 Most Wanted and Pro Street.
Very easy op sys to get started with Linux.
