Just Recintly built myself a pc and stuck everything on there as you do and when i tryed to play call of duty: world at war it didnt work, everything is patch (steam), all the drivers on the graphics card, sound card, motherboard are all up to date. I looked on the internet how to slove it and it said about changing settings in the sound but that didnt work at all so plzzzzz can some help. Oh the error that keeps poping up everytime is "Error during initialization: Unhandled exception caught"

If it asks to install games for windows allow it, also your firewall could be blocking it so make an exception when you install, direct X is another one that needs to be up to date, and also could you say what hardware you are using, as if it's a weak graphic card, this will stop it also.

there is an exception on my firewall for it, direct X is updated and the hardware I got is

AMD Athlon x4 3.0Ghz
GA-890PA-UD3H motherboard
4GB of DDR3 1600Mhz ram
Powercolour HD6870
Asus Xonar D2X sound card.

I think you will find it will be a driver issue, is your sound a card or a MB based one.

If its a steam game, try verifying the files to correct the error! Go to libary, right click on waw then properties, then local files then click on verify. Hope that does it ;)

Just a note - WaW wasn't designed for 7

So try using compatability mode (Windows Vista SP2)

And set it to run as admin, launch through Steam

compatability mode didnt work :/ tryed XP and Vista with all the diffrent SP's.....I ran windows XP as a virtual OS and world at war worked fine in that but havning to boot up and run a virtual OS just to play a game is a bit of a hassle.

Well mine and my sons run fine in windows 7 ultimate 64. Did you try to verify the files through steam?

Probably a bad install, uninstall it and try again.
