Right seem to fixed the o/c problem of getting past 3.1ghz I found the 1303 bios which seems to completely remove any block on the oc of the q6600, my guess is asus dont want us too oc these chips on their striker so maybe we would upgrade our mobos. Just a thought!!!

Well the v1 cooler copes up until 3.3ghz but fails miserably after that with unstable temps nearly keeping my room toasty have left it at 3.2 for 24/7 working. Need water to go beyond me thinks!!!

Staarting to think the there is something wrong with the temps going to check it out further today as even when i dropped the fsb bk down it ran at 60c for ages so i dont think its quite right! And yes got it up to 3.5 the bios is the problem and it seems each board is different to which bios is better, but 1305 is a definate no go for all boards so dont update to that if you want to o/c a quad!!

haha, wicked to hear you're getting water, good luck with that, me nox and tax all have had experience so you got plenty of help.
Could the cooler have come loose? or have you started using a different monitoring program?
seems rather strange, good luck with sorting it.
you know lustral has a striker too.

just lower the fsb, resit the heatsink, just general maintanance then run it as it was before, no point of having a high clock speed if it has no stability

Jonny2Bad
28-10-2007, 01:15 PM
Yeah for some reason my heatsink wasnt bedded on the cpu properly, no wonder my oc went into the 60c mark might try again now that ive sorted it out

Jonny2Bad
29-10-2007, 06:24 PM

Jonny2Bad
31-10-2007, 04:59 PM
tried it just doesnt like it cant be bothered everytime i reset my bios i have to redo my bios for the hdd's and so on and so on it's too tedious!!!

31-10-2007, 05:44 PM

Jonny2Bad
31-10-2007, 06:04 PM
no it nearly fried my cpu!!!

teknokid
31-10-2007, 06:08 PM
lol, so the coolers not better than water? ;P
but it does cost a lot less!!!
how about reducing your multiplier?

Jonny2Bad
31-10-2007, 06:16 PM
No i dont think it was down to the cooler tbh something just isnt right with the oc of these chips on this board, the cooler works fine on my son and mine with the e6600, but i do think water is a must for this board and this chip!!

Jonny2Bad
31-10-2007, 06:19 PM
Too much to go into in text but basically it just goes beserk after 3.2 and seeing as its so stable at 3ghz and it makes it the equivalent of a £600 chip and i'd rather buy a 8800gt than another q6600 lol im quitting till i change my mobo!!!

teknokid
01-11-2007, 03:25 PM
lol, well i hope i can get enough out my mobo, then it'll keep me going for a long while(3.8ghz i hope) until penryn and i can get a new mobo (780i)?

Jonny2Bad
01-11-2007, 04:08 PM
Well with water it should help loads with high temps etc, but mine just doesnt want to cooperate will try again when i have more patients lol

teknokid
01-11-2007, 04:41 PM
yeah, but all the ones i seen so far have water blocks on the mobo, its probs vrm overheat or something

Jonny2Bad
01-11-2007, 05:27 PM
Yeah probably why i cant get past 3ghz then but tbh im happy a £600 chip for £170 happy days!!!

teknokid
01-11-2007, 06:08 PM
lol, yeah but u wld overclock that £600 chip!!!

Jonny2Bad
01-11-2007, 06:10 PM
Lol yeah i would, this striker just isnt meant to oc quads asus dont want it 2 why else would they bring out 1305 and remove 1303 from the website download but leave 1301 up there!! All 2 suspect for my liking!!

teknokid
01-11-2007, 06:12 PM
lol, yeah forcing you too buy a p35 or x38. for £220 you would expect more though :(

Jonny2Bad
01-11-2007, 06:33 PM
Probably a p35 asus, £90 will get at least that for the striker and just put it down to experience

teknokid
02-11-2007, 04:54 PM
i wouldnt be so sure, there only £150 on scan now :(

mattk

freezer 7 doesnt fit on the striker extreme correctly. the massive copper hetpipes stop it from making contact properly. maybe with a little modification?? :-D

teknokid
05-11-2007, 03:39 PM
yeah, im sure you could bend a few pins or something

Jonny2Bad
05-11-2007, 03:41 PM
Yeah I had the same problem with the coolermaster mars had to really squeeze into position!!
