I just built a computer with an Asrock AliveNF6G motherboard.
Top notch system but needs a better GFX card.

The cheapest 8800 is about $300 and that is alot of money for me

I was thinking about getting a silent 8500gt with heatsink?
I want semi-decent gaming. like i would like to be able to run BF2142 on full GFX settings??? i have 3.5gb of memory so that helps

thats the thing! i can't wait any longer.

ive decided to go with the Gigabyte 512MB 8500GT, PCIE 128bit Graphics Card. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Comp ... 189730.htm (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Components/Video-cards/PCIExpress/photos/a-124014274/p-46189730.htm)

I have read 10 reviews about it.

Pros: it is SLI compatible, and can play the latest games such as BIOSHOCK, and BF2142 on highest settings. on games such as Counter Strike Source it scores over 150 frames per second

Cons: The heatsink can get extremly hot and is a heavy card. as long as you have a full decent sized case and a bit of cooling it will be fine

ARRRGH NOOO! you will be extremely disappointed with that card i have a x1950 pro which is more powerful and can only just play bf2142 on highest settings but it stutters in certain large battle but that could be because of my lack of ram this one should be better in bf2142 as it's 512mb http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-1950P5 if you look around you can find the 256mb version for a bit cheaper

What's with all these people raving about the 8500GT. Seems like a very slow card to me... :?

It can't seriously run new games at high specs, can it?

Weird.

8500 gt is stuck in the dx10 hype and so ppl dont realise it is a RUBBISH card the 8800 GT DIFFERENT card is just under the gtx in performance but a lot smaller and costs less

YEah the 8500 is pretty rubbish. It will play games, but a 8600 is worth the little extra. The 8800 will blow them both away.

I'm getting impatient, hurry up and stock them novatech :P

you guys give good advice!

in the end i DIDN"T go with that card.

Instead i went with the albatron 8600GT 256mb graphics card.

Good idea do you think?

How much is that card? I still think the gaming performance will be quite low on that card but if its the best your budget can go to then go for it!!

it would be 77 pounds in your money. not too bad i don't think

the albatron 8600GT still has dual 400mhz RAMDAC's

The core speed is 540 MHz and can overclock to 712 MHz

The memory speed is 1400 MHz and can overclock to 1760 MHz

all depends on what settings etc you play your game at, if you like moderate gaming then it will do fine, but for the hardcore fps junkies, they would prefer something a bit more..... how do we say....... expensive??....... nah..... better....lol

I really think any1 who is into playing games on their pc really should consider saving for the 8800gt, not very often a card like that comes along at a price like that, that would be my 1 and only choice right now for any1 buying a new gfx card!!!!!

hey im still stuck on the last good price performance ratio card lol i cant keep up!

Im not actually sure how the 8800 would go in my pc as the pci-e 16x slot is right next to the back plate of the internal sound/ethernet/and onboard graphics if you get what i mean.

in fact any card that i put in would have to be upside down...

But i think the Albatron 8600GT will be right for me as i only run games on a maximum of 1024 by 768... or maybe 1240 by 1024 doesnt really matter

i have the 512mb version of the 8600GT and it runs Crysis demo on med/high very well. it also runs it on high at about 20fps.

it runs AOM on a ridiculously high res max lol.

I can run everything full in win2k8 and get 20fps. Not tried dx9 mode yet though.
