I have an X60i pro with an Nvidia 8400M GO series card and keep getting a spooge error when attempting to run certain games. I cannot download drivers from the Nvidia site as the card supplied by Novatech is modified by another company - "Clevo". Their site requires me to know what laptop supplied by them (rather than Novatech) I have! How do I get updated drivers I cry!?! Just what was the point in getting this laptop if now I can't do what I want to do with it!?!

Nvidia do not directly support laptop graphics.
This is because laptop drivers for VGA require modification by the laptop manufacturer in order to add in information about the screen, standby switch function and various other information. This can not be done by Nvidia for obvious reasons. Also cooling solutions in laptops are custom design so the laptop manufacturer needs to check that drivers are designed to correctly control VGA core to stop overheating from happening. Also something Nvidia cannot do as every laptop is different.
Please can you try downloading one of the following drivers and see if these help. These are the most up to date driver approved by clevo at this time.
Windows XP
ftp://ftp.clevo.com.tw/M6xSU/VGA/8400M.zip
or
ftp://sftp.clevo.com.tw/M6xSU/VGA/8400M.zip
Windows Vista
ftp://ftp.clevo.com.tw/M6xSU/VGA/8400M_V.zip
or
ftp://sftp.clevo.com.tw/M6xSU/VGA/8400M_V.zip
Hopefully that should help. I have provided two links per OS version. Should one link not work try the other one.

Or, alternatively, you could try a well known and proven enthusiast route:

EDIT - Alt link while site is down: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=52555
They offer the latest nvidia drivers as well as modified inf's.
With all this brouhaha about speciality drivers controlling fan speeds and such, it's easy to get scared from choosing a better (performance wise) driver route. But the fact remains that so long as you us and OS that can detect resolutions on the fly (XP, Vista) and realize that temp controlled fan speeds on pretty much every modern laptop is hardware controlled, and not through software (try loading up rivatuner of atitool and see that regardless of drivers, you'll never be able to change fan speeds in a lappy) you can use any driver so long as the respective core is supported in drivers and your device id's are injected into the drivers correctly.
And for fact in hand, I am currently using nVidia's 169.12 beta driver on my Dell Vostro 1500 without issue. As a matter of fact, it's corrected a flickering issue I had with Dells own 'proper' driver that is on offer. And have been modding drivers myself for portable use since back in the GF4 mobile days.

Had this problem in the past with a friends laptop. Either its a lack of VRAM (unlikely) or you'll need to update directx.
