Hi
Can I use 6 Gb of RAM on a Novatech Executor Pro system with Vista home premium 32 bit version?

yes you could but it would be pointless as windows can only use 3.2 gb of ram on 32bit and a program can only use 2gb what do you ned 6gb for anyways!

You can fit it, but Windows will not use it. As per post above. Max application size is 2gb and after hardware has been allocated memory address space Windows will only use about 3.2gb of the RAM. This will vary depending on system configuration.
32bit OS has a maximum memory addressing limit of 4gb.
In order to properly uses 6gb you would need 64bit OS.
What are you using that would require 6gb??

Thanks for the info.
We would like to build and render large 3D models.
I have already ordered the PC and the extra RAM (the salesman didn't tell me the extra would be useless on that OS). Is there a way I can change my order to the 64 bit OS before it gets shipped?
The order order was placed by me: Robert Harris, on the 27 of October 2007
I don't like to post the order number as I am a bit paranoid

Thanks I appreciate the response, even though I'm still a bit miffed that when I ordered the extra RAM, even asking for it to be fitted prior to shipping (which he did tell me couldn't be done, fair enough). He failed to tell me that it would be pointless to purchase the additional RAM in the first place.

tech support in some places arent the most fantastic at every sector of the ICT world, which is understandable, but if you can change or return that item then no harm done then is there??
if it arrives with a 32bit os, do not open or accept the agreement - just format and install the 64 it os - then novatech *may* be able to elp you out. No idea why they don't use the 64 bit OS instead across the board, it has all the drivers and is just as stable.

some stuff dnt have good drivers and compatability etc

Microsoft would not certify your 32bit drivers unless you also had 64 bit drivers, so any driver issues were also relavant to 32 bit vista, and vistas compatibility mode is pretty good - nothing i've not been able to run without a tiny amount of research at most.
still a hog of an OS though...

Thanks to everyone who gave input.
We now have our computer with the 6 Gb of RAM and the 64 bit OS.
Thanks especially to NeilS at Novatech for pulling out all the stops and going the extra mile to sort everything out in extra quick time.
Our faith in Novatech has been restored
