Upgraded from 7600GS 512MB with which everything was fine.

Bought BFG 8800GTS 640MB OC new and installed into M2N4-SLI motherboard with Thermaltake 650W PSU so should be no problems (..???)

Followed the manual uninstalling all previous video drivers. Powered off and inserted graphics card and connected up....powered on.

No signal to screen for a few seconds followed by 1 long beep and 3 short beeps. Have diagnosed this as 'Video adapter failure - Bad video adapter or memory' from here http://www.amptron.com/html/bios.beepcodes.html
However it does not turn itself off.

Have I been given a faulty graphics card, is it incompatible with my motherboard, is it going to take ages to sort out, when can i play games?

All products are from Novatech

Try resetting the bios through the jumper sometimes that can help, is the fan spinning on the gfx? And have you plugged the power cable into the gfx card?

A 7900gts512mb and no its a very good card copes with everything ive chucked it!! What is your cpu and ram like?

AMD x2 2.2g, 1gig decent quality ram

this cpu but socket AM2 http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?AMD-X242O

have updated bios (M2N4-SLI) and fixed nothing.

i also booted with no gfx card installed using the onboard one....it does 1long, 3 short beeps again but it happens quicker than when 8800 in is in there. this tells me something could be up with the (BRAND NEW FROM NOVATECH) motherboard. or somehow the computer will ONLY boot with the old 7600 installed and/or some simple settings i haven't found need changing...

Did you reset the cmos?

It's more likely a setting in the bios set to something different that wont allow it to post with the new gfx card!!

im afraid of doing that, i've been building computers, mostly mine, together for years have never come across this so possibly a faulty card - im no good at diagnosing broken bits.

what will it do? i read on maybe this forum some guy had sort of the same problem, reset cmos and it messed everything up for him.
