Ok so I just bought a new power supply for my PC (OCZ StealthXStream2 700W PSU [80PLUS certified]) However when I installed it, it seems that something else is also broken. I'll break it down below:
1. Without graphics card, PC boots up no "beep" from internal speaker, nothing displays, PC does not turn off when the power button is held for 10 seconds, must turn off at supply.
2. With Gfx Card, Same as above, Graphics card has a red LED on the underside ( where the pins are) that has never been on whilst PC was running, Does this mean that my Graphics card is fine or is this broken as well? I have a Sapphire Vapor-X ATI RadeonHD 4890 1024MB if that helps.
3. Tried same as scenario 1 but with just one stick of RAM in, Tried all 4 slots and got same results as above. I cannot test the Processor as I do not have a compatible motherboard to test this.
I am not too fussed about Crossfire and SLI as I think it's a pointless investment if it's there for a little bit more then I will get it but I doubt i'll get more graphics cards. This PC is also going to be used for rendering video's and images made in the Adobe suite and Sony Vegas next year when I start my Media and Games Design course at university next year, I was planning to upgrade it during summer but it's broken now so I might as well upgrade now as the chance has come round.
Am I right in thinking that the motherboard is the only other thing that's broken if everything else shows 'signs of life'? Because if this is the case I will need to replace my motherboard and RAM as I am currently using DDR2 and cannot find an AM3 Chipset motherboard that supports DDR2 RAM. Here's what I'm planning (On a budget of £200 for mobo,RAM and p&p):
RAM (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/memory-pc/ddr3-pc3-12800/1600mhz/Corsair/CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9.html)
Motherboard (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/motherboards/amdam3allchipsetmotherboards/Asus/90-MIBCM5-G0EAY0WZ.html)
Thanks in advance for any help I receive :) my current specs are in my signature if they will help you to help me!
