Hey guys,

I've woken up to a malfunctioning PS3, and its not even a common problem. I dont understand how its happened because its not been abused or anything like that.

Basically you can turn the PS3 on by the main switch (on back of PS3), and then turn it on by the touch sensor, but there is no display, and the touch sensor no longer works for the power.
The CD touch sensor works while ON, but the power sensor doesnt work while ON (works while off), and theres no display.

What the **** is going on, any suggestions?

Possible corrupt HDD, or....

Does the power light actually come on? And if it does is it yellow? The yellow power light is essentially the PS3's version of xbox's red ring of death.

Sony's support is usually pretty sharp though. If you contact Sony they should get it sorted fairly quickly.

It's going to sound a bit obvious - but just in case you haven't tried it try the PS3 on a different display just to make sure it's not the display causing the issues.
Also try different a video cable if you're able to just so that you know it's not causing the issue.
As I say, basic, but definitely worth trying.

when turning the ps3 on hold the power button for 10 seconds

It should beep a number of times and restart, resetting system settings

Naah it's solid green.

I've mentioned in the first post that the touch power doesn't respond after turning the PS3 on, so you cn't reset the PS3 with that.

--------------

I've fixed it now anyway, thanks guys.
I did some logical thinking; that the unresponse and the independant CD drive power must mean that the HDD crashes on powerup, which is why no display and ps3 doesnt work.
So I took out HDD, turned on PS3 (booted up perfect without the dashboard), placed HDD back in, reset PS3, and it booted up perfectly. But I'd have to do this every time to play my PS3.

So it looked like a corrupt HDD. So I backed up everything on my externa HDD, and then restored the PS3 HDD back to factory settings, and restored all of my previous games and saves.

Now works perfectly :)
