Can someone please give me a little assistance,

I have a Advent P4 2.66 which I am positive the motherboard has gone on. I have changed the PSU and removed the network card, graphics card and memory, the system will start, but there is no display caming up and the hard drive does not run up. There is an LED on on the mother board but that is it. The on/off switch on the front will work when turning it on but not off. There are no BIOS beeps.

My problem is now, what do I do, I was considering changing the motherboard, however I would like to upgrade to something a little better too. The PC is used for mainly internet browsing, some video and photo editing and no gaming.

I have a budget of around £200 or less, should I buy a motherboard upgrade or a barebones system. I have lots of stuff on my 120gig HD that I want to keep however I am quite happy with that as a slave drive in a new system.

I have probably confused myself more that anything else. I just need a bit of positive direction now.

Many thanks in advance.

Baz

Yeah probably better off with starting a new system, using old parts you can salvage from your old pc, the parts these days are so cheap it hardly seems worth trying to sort out pc's that are older than a couple of years, the amd bundles are pretty cheap and good enough for what you use your pc for!!

go for a whole new pc. Novatech sell them for £200(ish) and they all come with Dual core and most with 1-2gb ram etc... also a great modifiable case, just incase you want to upgrade! :)

youl have to supply your own monitor though.

depends on whether you want a new case - generally i'd say the barebones systems will be easier and faster to get going, the motherboard bundles will mean taking a screwdriver and an hour or two to your computer, and it could still be the psu that caused the problem in the first place...
