I have just installed the Geforce 8600 GT 256MB graphics card and since I have done this an error pops up:

C:\PROGRA~1\XPERTV~1\IU\BIOSCTL.EXE
C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL An installable virtual device driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I have tried uninstalled and reinstalling but it still comes up. Has anybody else had this prob and if so have you found a fix for it?

Thanks

could you try the latest Nvida drivers and run windows updates.
http://www.nvidia.co.uk
also run symantec updater if it isn't already upto date.

this could fix your issue.

Thanks for getting back to me. I've updated the Nvidia drivers after I'd installed my graphics card. I've just tried a windows update as you have suggested but there are no new updates for me.

As for symantec I no longer have it on my computer, I have an alternative internet security that I use and I can't understand why this error popped up.

However, I think I know what the cause of the error is. When I installed the drivers from the disk it installed some XpertVision Software tool and when I disabled that from running on start up the error message stopped appearing. I've looked on the XpertVision website but can't find a latest download for the software and I'm not too sure whether I need this software on my computer for the graphics card. If I don't then I can uninstall it but if I do, I'm not sure what I can do about the error. I've looked on the XpertVision support but nothing is under the FAQs and there doesn't appear to be anywhere that I can contact them to ask them about it (There is a contact page but the offices are abroad and there doesn't look like anyone in the UK that I can call). Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

the individual software should not adversely affect your system in this case. their software is probably just their own version of NVidia's control panel.

I recently bought a Novatech barebones bundle and added in a Novatech/Xpertvision GeForce 7600GS card at the same time. I quickly found that the system would hibernate OK, would resume, but then immediately shut itself down (graceful shutdown, not BSOD). After a few months trying to track down the problem, I eventually rebuilt the machine using XP from scratch, even reformatting system disk before starting, and testing at each stage. As soon as I installed the supplied video drivers + Xpertvision management console, I saw the problem. I removed the drivers + console, installed nVidia drivers downloaded from the nVidia web site, and everything is working fine (and I have PVR capability back with my USB Freeview tuners, which is what I bought the thing for!)

So, I also have a suspicion about the Xpertvision console, but I'm not going to reinstall it to find out...

However, I can confirm that my card runs fine without it, and in the past I have never found anything for which I needed the management console.
