Got XP finally installed on the new system, and it has been running for a few hours.

I installed Asus PC Probe II (using Asus MOBO and Q6600 CPU) and it tells me that the CPU temp is 17 and MOBO 22.

Is Asus Probe II a reliable tool, or is there better?

It has always read the same as anything else ive installed to read the temps correctly so never had a reason to doubt it! Have you checked for your mobo latest bios version, asus boards always need updating after installing them.

ive found the asus probe to be 5C out sometimes, because the temp sensor isnt directly on the cpu, unlike using a program like coretemp, which uses the cpu's temperature sensor

Well, elsewhere I have read that the Asus Flash utility screws everything up, so I have been hesitant in doing so.

Coretemp looks interesting. Is there a similiar small footprint prog which monitots the temp of the MOBO or case? Motherboard Monitor looks a bit over the top for me.

Well i have to retract my temp settings after checking them with core Temp it is showing my idle at 32c so my asus progs are nearly 10c out can this be right? Well ive never had any trouble with said tool on flashing my bios just make sure you download the newest version of that also!

Yeah this is pretty strange im going with core temp for now as it shows the temp of all the 4 cores so this must be far more accurate than the other which give u just 1 figure, so my temps are this core 0-1 30c and 2-3 27c. So no i wouoldnt trust asus booster or probe in the future for accurate readings for the cpu temps, but ok for motherboards so far!

Tested core temp on the e6600 and also the asus probe and booster and it would seem it is far more accurate on dual core than quads as my boys pc readings are all in line with each other.
