Hi I have looked at other q & a's about memory but i just want to be sure i get the right advice for buying from Novatech

I have the following model motherboard: (ECS) P4M800PRO-M V2
I am currently using one: 512mb DDR2- 266Mhz memory card (make?)

The booklet for the motherboard states that for: DDR2 i have two choices being: DDR2-400 (200Mhz Memory bus) or DDR2-533 (266Mhz Memory bus)
My question is do i have to look for memory that has a maximum of 266Mhz or is it just the, say 533 bit i have to look at. I'm quite confused as to what it actually all means. What does the memory bus bit mean? I have looked at various explanation sites, but i don't think they really give me the answer i am after, or im being thick.
I want at least 1Gb of memory (capacity of 2Gb) but am unsure in how to proceed and be right first time.
I would appreciate some expert advice as to where and what to get.
Sorry for the long question...

Thanking you in advance..
Andy

I think the mobo model number will do here:
http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?detailid=673&DetailName=Specification&MenuID=44&LanID=9

I always run CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) to identify memory modules. Very educational too. You'll be able to see how the bios runs the pair at the speed of the slowest module in frequency and timings.

But this is a single channel VIA P4M800Pro Intel chipset, so matching is less of an issue. Gives you a choice of DDR or DDR2 memory modules. But probably not simultaneously.

Add another DDR2-533 aka PC2-4300 up to 1GB and you should be fine. Corsair Value Select is highly compatible, having a complete SPD timings table and low-density construction and good margins to boot. If you are running Vista with just two memory slots available, probably a matched 2X1GB pair makes sense. For XP, I would add another single 512MB module to take it up to 1GB.

Novatech will exchange memory if any problems. They also send you an installation guide explaining static precautions and stuff.

Hi again sorry to be a pain..
I have been looking at what you said but i just don't get it...
My motherboard booklet states that for DDR2 533 it has or should have a Memory bus of Mhz of 266?
Does this mean i need DDR2533 with a max of 266Mhz (memory bus) or can this be any amount?
I would also appreciate a link perhaps to what would be on to buy that would suit me. Would a 1Gb memory go well with the 512 i already have or should i just stick with another 512?
I looked for PC2-4300 on Novatech but could not find any.
Am i really this thick as not to work it out? I am no computer guru as you can probably tell.
I really appreciate your help in advance.

Best regards
Andy

The bus speed of the memory is doubled, so 266 x 2 = 533 (It really is!)
Memory with higher speed will just slow down to that speed.

I don't think running one 512Mb stick with one 1GB stick is ideal, as memory runs best in pairs.

Look here (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/products/a870x1y0z1p0s0n0m0) for the memory you are after. :)
