As the title says, I have an Nvidia 8800gts card in my novatech Executer system which i bought only about few weeks ago, it has preinstalled windows vista home premium installed too (32 bit).

Problem is, Ive downloaded the latest driver for the card from nvidias website and i cant install it, it comes up with a few uninstall errors to start with then it carries on trying to install and just stops like half way through the progress bar, i tried waiting and waiting etc but vista ends up timing out of it.
I even tried uninstalling the device and drivers from the device manager but i still get same problem, it appears i cant uninstall the card, or drivers or install the new driver either.

The version of driver thats currently installed is 7.15.11.6369 and the new driver is version 163.75.

Can someone please help me with this as iam stuck, thanks.

Mornin,,

You could try uninstalling the drivers with DriverCleaner, better than windows uninstall util.

Try that first before a fresh driver install,,

What i am saying is that in 2 different locations it has 2 different driver numbers

And i used to be an Nvidia boy, and this was one of my problems on that system.
Then i got a brand new system (2 years ago :( ), but ATI, and i got a similar problem

iam understanding you now, but nah, thats not the prob mate, i should be able to uninstall the driver and install the new one, infact i should be able to go back to the vista original driver, but i cant uninstall the driver or the adaptor either, and i cant install the new driver which is for a fact the new version and new version number, iam still looking for help if people can help ??

Surley some people must have same system as me and can try and upgrade to same new driver and will see they get same probs ?

What does it say when you try to install the driver? make sure you're using the right one for Vista, and that its for the right card, then when you run it, right click on it and then click 'Run as Administrator'. Not sure if this helps, but telling us the exact problem would help.

Sometimes, files from the previous driver are stored in C:\NVIDIA\WinVista , Try deleting the folders in there there, but don't remove them from the recycle bin until you've restarted, having installed the new drivers.
