View Full Version : RAM Limit?? HELP
Hi, i was wondering if i was to buy 4gb of RAM would it work with XP home SP2.i've heard that xp can only use about 3gb of ram and if i had 4 sticks would it boot with 4gb or just recognise 3gb?i want to dual boot my pc(xp and vista) and would like to use the 4gb in vista but was wondering if i would still be able to use xp with them. Thanks in advance, Tom :?

yes 4gb in xp appears as about 3.25gb if you use a 64 bit you can use more but i would advise against this as its too much hassle for an extra .75gb of ram i dont know about vista 32bit i think it can use 4gb i'd wait for more people to comment back

For sure the <4GB limit applies to all 32 bit operating systems.
But it shouldn't cause any problem to XP, but I would match the memory exactly to what you already have. That nifty little app known as CPU-Z will identify what you already have. Get more of the same.

Is it true that 64bit Operating Systems can address 128Gb of RAM? (Not that any Motherboard could hold that)

yes, but you need a **** of a board to use that much
but saying that, server 03 datacentre edition can take 128GB X86 RAM and 2TB of some other RAM, forgotten the name of it, something like "lithium".
