I have an X2 3800+ - very pleased with the performance.

I have been wondering if the CPU consists of two 64 bit cores, or two 32 bit cores. I have had a look on the net and it seems like two 64 bit cores - however on a 32 bit version of windows, should this not show as four CPU cores? I have two showing at present and am running XP 32bit.

If I upgrade to 64 bit version of windows, will I see two cores, or just one?

Kind Regards

hello, the cpu used in the pc is a 64bit dual core.

as far as i know it should show as two cpu's under the 32 and 64 bit versions of windows.

okay i think you have gotten a couple of things confuse you.

AMD 64 single core processors have 1 core correct, but they run a different architecture so that when run on 64 bit software they use their full potenital, this doesnt mean that there should be double the amount of cores.

AMD 64 X2 have 2 cores!!!!, but they can run under a 64bit environment

only dual core intel processors with HT (hyper threading, not hyper transport) show in "cpu-z" that they have 4 cores, this is because they have 2 physical cores, but each physical core acts as 2 virtual cores.

so to answer your question (if there was one)
AMD 64 X2 processors only have 2 cores, not 4
trust me, this makes sense

Hi,
I to have the amd x2 3800+, and cpu-z only shows it as having the two(dual) cores, im usong xp home sp2 32bit, hope this helps,

Another thing, what sort of temps do u get, guessing you using air, so what cpu temps do u get, anything lower than 30 at all?

I can also give you the proper X2 drivers, should work on your board.

Again, hope this helps all those with dual cores, or want a dual core :D

fan on 43%
and pump on 2,880
to keep it quiet :D

temps wre on stock -46 idle
50 load
overclocked and watercooled
idle 42
load 45

you may not say that those temps arent very good, but i also have my gpu on the same loop, and there is only 1X120mm rad fan going at 43%

I managed to overclock it to 2.85Ghz and it runs as smooth as a babys bottom lol :)

overclocked (currently running @ 2.50hz) and watercooled:
CPU Temp: 38c idle
42c load

Infact, my Spec is almost the same as yours SMKILER - apart from, I have the A8N32-SLI Deluxe mobo  + the Ram

here is something people with AMD dual core might want to look into
http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32790

played a couple hours of DOD on max everything, and my temps stayed relitively the same, so it must be good, seeing that it is boiling and my temps didnt go up from idle :D

Interesting

Must get that for my 4400+ and see what happens.

used on my X2 3800, and heat emmisions have gone down some how, and on games i get smoother gameplay (more fps) than when i ran it without the optimizer.
but apart from that there has been barely any differences

I installed it on mine last night and so far so good. Not played any games yet to test though.

I note that it is not listed in Add/Remove and no entries under Program Files/AMD so lets hope I don't have to back it out.

I got the optomiser as well, stranglely enough web browsing (windows opening) has speeded up so much that my wife noticed

And yes I did check to see if NTL had boosted my line speed :P
