I would of gotten one but i couldnt afford one, but the 79gtx performs like **** multiplied by 1.5  (got u all excited there didnt i)

the 79gtx can run at amazing quality and still get playable frame rates.
1600-1200 16XAA 16X AF and still getting over 50 frames , only the 79gtx can do it, apart from maybe the 1900xtx, but i prefer nvidia (simpler IMO)

it gets almost a 50% gain over the 7800gtx 256mb
and 40% gain over the 7900gt (wish i could afford a 79gtx)

so in conclusion if you have the right mobo, which you do
the right cpu, which you do if u OC a tiny bit to 2.3/2.4
the right psu, that baby will shine like a monkey thats just been buffed
and the right RAM, dunno about RAM too much, but that card will rock you world, rock your world!!!!

until the 8 series comes out towards the end of this year/ next year. but for now, the 79gtx will certainly be worth the wait, and money (if you have it)

cant wait for my 79gt tbh, it might just beat my current card, the ol faithful FX5200 128mb, quite a beast, apart from the overheating and black screening in gameplay, but what the **** :D

they made a mistake in that test, they said that they had a 7900gt 512mb, there isnt one even made

LOL.. The only way I am getting the 7900GTX 512MB is because I am selling my computer (THE SILVER COMPUTER SHOWN BELOW).

And obviously working my @ss off at work to get enough cash for the rest of the hardware :D

i have just recieved my 7900GT
http://67.15.129.139/6047/14/upload/p2810171.jpg
pic done on my bed cos it is the only place where i get good pics of stuff because it is in the perfect lighting position
http://67.15.129.139/6047/14/upload/p2810190.jpg

installed it straight away

now i just have to wait for my power supply
been delayed for 5 days now. should be coming 2day

also i have seen some very good volt mods done to the 7900GT and 79GTX, the 79gt gets to about 700mhz core (playable), and 950-1900 effective(playable)

and it then performs as much as a 79GTX ,even more in some cases, but to do this mod you have to solder some of the resistors....................sooo i dont think that i will do this

Hi people, i have the xfx geforce 7900 gtx graphics card installed in my machine. Actually i have only just bought my pc system from novatech.
I received my machine on the 20 june 2006 and all i have had is trouble with it. I have not been able to play any games for any good length of time before the machine decides to lockup or just freeze on me. I have checked on the internet and the forums and the graphics card is the problem.
From what it sounds like these cards are being sold over clocked, but there are plenty of buyers who have the card and say their still getting the crashes and freezes and there cards are running at the correct default speeds(including myself). Nvidea have said there is a problem with the 7900 series cards. I just thought i would pass this info on.

Now i am hoping that novatech will change my card for a different card and not just replace it for the same card. :(

20th june :)

Its certainly worth highlighting this to Novatech - could be a faulty component somewhere.

Thanks for the response. The case is a thermaltake aguila in black, i would say that the ventilation is pretty adequate. Also it states some of the case is actually aluminum. Mind you to be honest the case feels very heavy when lifted. Not at all like my previous lian li case which was all aluminum.
Novatech have given me a rma number and the full pc is going in for testing, it is getting picked up on the 4th july. They said it generally takes 3 days to sort it out, but it may well be sooner.
I can't believe i just paid £1200 for the pc and twice now things have gone wrong with it. First, one of the hardrives was faulty and had to be replaced and now the graphics card. As from tuesday no pc means no internet, no internet means no world of warcraft or pro 5. lol

Well it looks like i am going to be without my pc for at least a week. I called novatech asking how things are going with my pc. I was told they never received my pc from UPS until 6th july, but UPS confirmed the delivery date on the 5th july.
So they received my pc on the 5th july and only put it on the test bench on friday the 7th july. They told me it is looking like a graphic driver problem, which i really have my doubts as there are so many people with the same problem who have allready claimed that nvidea are replacing the 7900 gtx cards that they have bought.

I have told novatech if i dont have a fully working pc by early next week, they can keep it and i will go else. If i am honest i feel quite bad to be taking this stance. But over the years i have spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds with them, granted this is the first time this has happened. But for novatech to claim all their pc's are rigoursly tested when they told me over the phone that it's very hard to test all the pc's they sell. My argument is also the fault with one of the harddives was not picked up before they released the pc to me.

There are always things that happen over time that a company cannot protect against
dont blame the seller, blame the maker nvidia :D , because novatech didnt make it

Ok i suppose your right really, it is down to nvidea. But to claim every pc is rigoursly tested before release to the customer is down to novatech.
The faulty harddrive should have been picked up, again this is down to novatech. As for the graphics card which is an xfx 7900 gtx, is this made by xfx to nvidea's specs ?.
Why have xfx shut down their tech support forums, they have because all the xfx cards are faulty. And there are to many people who are angry because they have spent hundreds of pounds on their 7900 series cards.

But the problem not only lies with the xfx cards, there are also problems with the bfg and evga versions of the same 7900 card. I think for novatech's tech support to say that it's just a driver problem is wrong, if they just search on the internet for the problems people are having with these cards, they will realise that it is not a graphics driver problem, but a hardware problem.

i think big beere has an xfx 7900gtx and it works fine, it may just be luck (or not so lucky) pick of the draw.
Have you ever built something, eg. a circuit in skl (back in the day), it works fine that day, then the next day it isnt working, thats what can happen to any piece of hardware.

xfx use reference designs to nvidia but factory overclock their cards, i went with the cheapest galaxy 7900gt card and have overclock it to well over what any factory does :D and it is stable.
Expensive isnt always best

Actually, if I may interject for a second, all of the PC's are tested before despatch using every part of the system with a lot of diag software (gfx/rom drives/hdd/mem/cpu you get the idea) and you do get PC's that check fine once built but fail a week later seemingly at random.

my current PC has just had a 160GB WD hdd completely fail on me after running fine for 2 weeks. It runs, system locks, restart and the HDD has vanished from the bios. A few more restarts and it comes back only to fail again.
I've since replaced it with no other problems but it does go to show that components do fail intermittently, and as such won't always be picked up as faulty when tested because at that point they arn't!

In regards to the 7900GTX, if there was a genuine problem with them I imagine there would have been a product recall by now and all retailers would have been made aware, however as yet this has not happened, and I sure companies like XFX, Gainward, BFG etc would never have released their own versions of the card with known bugs as they pride themselves on the quality of their builds and the reputation to match.
There have been a few issues with the 7800/7900/7950 drivers of late but they are releasing updates to fix these problems as we speak.
I can certainly say that we have not had every PC we have made with those cards be returned to us, or had those cards that where sold seperatly returned either.

You will be able to find info on the net saying there is a problem with a lot of different IT components (apparently according the certain forums my MSI mb won't run at a certain FSB, which I am currently doing without a problem) so I would not take the info on the net regarding deives with "problems" as gospel, until said manufacturer releases a statement saying they have a known problem.

We will of course look into it, and if there is a confirmed problem we will replace the part as required.

Novatech and myself have agreed to change the graphics card as i believe that to be the problem. The xfx card is being replaced with the bfg version.
I should receive it by 10am on the 11th july, hopefully this will sort the problem for me. The chap on the phone said this card is not from the march versions which allegedly was the faulty ones.

11-07-2006, 04:24 PM
Ok i received my pc and the first thing i tried was 3dmark 06. Using the xfx 7900gtx card i was lucky to get to the ice levels, and when i did it froze everytime.
With the alternate bfg 7900 gtx card it actually completed all the tests in 3d mark 06. A good start then and i hope and pray it keeps like it.
I would like to ask whether anyone would know how i could determine whether this bfg card is from the newer batch of cards or the faulty batch that was allegedly released in march 06.
By the way i did get a free teashirt with the graphics card, i just wondered if this happened with the faulty cards.

Thanks very much for any responses. :D

Just a little query here but i have been on my pc for about 2 and a half hours now and the gpu temp is at 43C. I have only been tinkering in windows, so does this sound about right ?.
Let me also say that as yet (touch wood) i have not had any problems with my replacement bfg 7900 card. I hear that these cards perform pretty well when overclocked.
Saying that though having paid such a large amount i really would not take the risk in oc'ing when it runs everything anyway. I would be intrested to find any user who may have the same thermaltake aguila case as me and what their thoughts are on it. As to be honest to say the case is part aluminum it weighs a ton. Also to see how their case is doing with the hot weather at the moment.

43 degrees C is fine for the gpu
the aguila case is basically the thermlatake shark case, but with a different front door 8)
and basically all mid tower/ full tower cases weigh a ton, but if you just do some weights then it wont seem as heavy

i have had exactly the same problem with my xfx 7900gtx, artifacts all over the place with ES4: oblivion and quake 4 etc and it nearly always freezes/BSOD on me after a while. because it is overclocked it overheats badly and fries the memory in the card. i am hoping novatech will be helpful when i call them tomorrow.

have you tried underclocking your card??
it may lower performance a smidge, but might help, plus the 7900gtx can still perform wildly at stock speeds.

there is a thread on overclocking nvidia cards in this graphics section, find it, and underclock the card to make sure that the clocks are causing the problem
