as has been surgested before on your other threads when you asked for advice, go for the ati 3850 which is a good card for your budget

theres a few 8500 and 8600 nvidia cards also. i'm playing call of duty 4 with my old 7950 gtx and that handles it fine. ok its a gtx but the 8000 ranges haver better tech in them so you be fine with a gt or a gts

too expensive and teh 3850 blows the 8500 and 8600 out of the water, almost as good as the nvidia 8800 gt @ about £40 more expensive

I deffinetly recommend a GeForce 8600 GTS 512 MB card for COD4 as I have this card (2 in SLi now) and the game runs extremely well.

When I started playing COD4, I only had the one card and it ran perfectly, I just added another because I could! :)

Happy gaming.

for £100 you are better off with a 3850 which will probably come fairly close to sli 8600gts although it does depend what resolution you are playing at, because @ higher resolutions more memory is more helpful, as i have just found out trying to run cod 4 @ 1440x900 as opposed to the 1280x1024 i was running before on my 1950pro 256m, but the 3850 will bring you good performance @ any of the resolutions cod4 can display at

Got to be a 3850 or 8800gt 256mb. Nothing else really counts for £100

256 version are cheaper if you have money go for 8800GT if you use low res gaming

i had to get GTS over GT coz they ran out of stock with GT, im also pissed off because ive lost the crysis disk that came with 8800GTS !!

I purchased NVIDIA Geforce 9400GT PCI-E 512MB for same reason, works great cost under 40£s

Wow, that's impressive, revived after a year and three days, i was wondering why people were suggesting 3850 when there are cards like 48xx out :P

Ive used an ATi x1650Pro 256Mb card to play CoD4 on back in the day (infact my brother uses it now) and it runs the game fine with no issues, plus that was only £65 2 years ago. So theres definatly no need to break the bank if thats about as taxing your going to get.

Thanks all and glad that the GTX260 will be OK.
Am looking forward to COD as in the distant past was familar with board games. 'Panzerleader' in fact. An interesting game, you could play as the enemy (German of course), dont know whether you can with COD. Prob with 'PL' was that say a Brit/US Division played against an eqaul in numbers German Division or Company or Platoon, the German side always won because their tanks/units just had thicker armour or more firepower. It was pretty hopeless unless the Brits/US in 'PL' had 25/50% more in numbers. My 'friends' always wanted to play the German side so I invairably got thrashed but I surpose that could in some way reflect what actually happened in the war in N Africa & Europe WW2.
Thick armour and firepower does matter!
I'm quite looking forward COD
Cheers!

Peter have you bought cod4 or cod5 because if its ww2 you are after 5 is the new one and if its modern warfare that will be the older 4.

Great card though I used to run both 4 and 5 on 2 7900's so yours will smash the fps!
