okydoky.. I'm home from university and wish to use my laptop while i'm at home concidering all my work is on there so thinking of networking the home computer up to it so i can use the internet.

However, at home the internet provider is BT and when i get the internet at uni its NTL. Also both computers have different firewall/virus checker things. Will these things be a problem when/if i network them together?

a point to the right products if it is possible to network will also be a help..

Thank you!

Hi littlestrange how do you intend on networking the two machines up? and what firewall/virus sw do you have on each machine?

OK i too use BT i don't think you will have a problem with these two isp's the only fly in the ointment could be firewalls. but not knowing what you use i can't suggest things.

I have no idea how to network together, but i guess i'll look into that if its possible. On the home computer its McAfee and on the laptop it's Nornan (or however you spell it, lol)

hope that helps to solve this query!

The easiest way would be to use a router, then your internet connection would be shared between them. Then all you would have to do is plug the compters in to it and you shouldn't have to do much setup or networking - which can be fiddly... You shouldn't have any issues with your firewalls either.

BT usually give there "BT homehub" away to there customers though there not the best things.

Hope this gives you a point in the right direction.

I dont think you should have any problem with virus checkers, but as for networking, have you looked at your internet settings for your laptop? I'm sure they can be changed to adapt.

I think there will no problem in future. You should check all related software on it. check your network setting.
