Hi,
I purchased a Novatech Laptop a little over 6 months ago. Ever since i took it out of its box and started it up, when the CPU gets to a temprature of around 30'c the fan starts up. This is normal, but the laptop sounds like it's going to take off! Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a replacement for these laptops? Nothing to major if its not, will just have to build it it's own runway. :D
Cheers

this looks like it may be a faulty fan. none of the laptsops we have sold over the last 6 to 12 months have been noisy, some of them you can hear the fan but its not distracting.
if you call tech support on 0870 112 0612 they could generate a returns number so we can have the laptop back and replace the fan.

im not sure about that. i have a navigator and the fan has been noticably noisy from new.
i have has about 4 laptops from novatech (navigators and nomad) and all have had the same noisy fan.
seems to be when running off power rather than batteries

Its is more common for Laptops to use the fans when on the mains but it is all down to your windows power settings.
Most people have it set so that when they are on Battery the unit clocks the cpu speed up and down depending on usage. Now this has the effect that in the down cycle of the CPU that it is not working as hard therefore produces less heat thus less cooling is required.
However on the Mains the CPU will clock up to full clock speed and stay there regardless of load which of course is what most people like, there not on the move they don't need to conserve battery power so why not get full performance. However this has the effect that CPU generates more heat and requires more cooler thus more use of the cooling fan and more noise.
Added to that Notebook cooling fans are thermal controlled so the hotter the unit the fast the CPU fan is turned to cool that CPU. So if you place your unit where you might block the vent on the unit this might cause the unit to not get enough cool air and getting hotter than normal thus it will kick the fan in to overdrive to cool it.
Also units that contain Radeon or Nvidia Mobile graphics will require further cooling as these items produce additional heat
That all said however you can tell the difference normally by the said of the fan as to if its a fault or not. Obviously faulty fans will make an abnormal noise like grinding or scraping. A fan working poroperly will just produce the air pressure type noise caused by fans moving air at speed.
You should hear them working but the sound should not be overly loud
Hi there, I similarly have complaints about the fan on my laptop being annoyingly noisy. I notice that on new laptops fan noise has been greatly reduced, if not eliminated.
I was just wondering whether Novatech provide the option to upgrade fans at all? I'm happy with my Novatech laptop overall, the fan being the only issue I have, and if there was a way i could upgrade my laptop through installing a new fan/cooling system i would be happy to pay for this.
I've noticed that my laptop has become increasingly hot recently, and am concerned that the fan may be faulty. how much would a replacement fan cost? the serial number for my novatech laptop is pnb408007734
