hi'a!

i've got a asus m/b that came with some over clocking software called Asus AI booster.

my friend told me that this would be sufficent for overclocking.

I have a Q6600 quad chip and AI booster tells me that it's running at 1.8 rather then 2.4 becuase the multiplier that my board is using is 7 rather then 9......changed this and it now shows as 2.4.....he also told me to enable auto speed stepping in my bios to control the work load which i've done.....

the only trouble now is that my PC doesn't appear to reset properly any more and hangs and i have to re-reset it or hold down the off/on button to get it to boot properly.

I went back and changed all the settings to how they were previously and the issue still persists...

Do any of you fine people know why? or have encountered this....

i've also uninstalled the asus programme and also deleted all the reg entries whicj relate to it with xp repair pro...

thank you for your help!

well is that all you've changedd? you dont want to overclock using ai booster for starters, unless its bios level, i always found it C**P.
I would try changing whatever you disabled. Normally you'd disable the intel slow down thing so that you dont get it ruining an overclock (sorry i forgotten the name completely) so your friend is wrong, turn it off :)
we need more info, then we can help you overclock...

hey, cheers for your reply....

i'm not really too worried about o/cing at the moment just wanted to see if i could sort out the problem that i'm having when rebooting.....

i have changed everything back to as it was prior to my attempt...

btw what extra info would you like for o'c?

erm, are you running a G0 stepping chip (use cpu-z) to find this out.
Also what motherboard are you using.
If you've changed everything back, and its still not working you need to clear the cmos (it will tell you how in the manual) this will put everything back to stock, but ensure that it will work.
Overclocking great fun once you get going, so dont give up :)

hey I have a Asus P5N32-E SLI m/b

Processor : Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Chipset : nVidia nForce 680i SLI SPP
Physical Memory : 2048 MB DDR2-SDRAM (black guiel)
Video Card : Nvidia Corp NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512

Cpz says that i have a stepping B,

nope and nope, you will need to reenter some settings possibly, but everything else will fuction as normal.
Is that stepping B. That may be the wrong section. There should be a section that says either B3 of G0....

tek can i e mail you a screen print as it says revision GO and stepping B....

nothing else on there about it....

also my cpu runs at 1.8mhz instead of 2.4 is this due to the multiplier being 7? and it should be 9? as when i change the multiplier on bios to 9 my cpu runs at 2.4

Just set the bios back to optimal defaults.

The CPU speed discrepancy is power saving mode, I'll wager. "EIST" to the initiated.

That's probably right. I noticed the same thing when my CPU was running at 2Ghz instead of 2.6Ghz as a result of the EIST thingybob. When you're not utilising much processing power it sets your FSB multiplier to a lower number to save power. As soon as you start doing something that is resource intensive it steps back up to its full processing power so no need to worry 8)
