271 CMOS Battery Replacement

1> Unclip the keyboard from the main unit. Use a small screw driver to push the small clips in (3 are located at the top of the keyboard by F2, F8 and /).

2> Remove the keyboard by lifting the small brown ribbon connector gently on the mainboard.

3> Unscrew the 4 black screws that are on the heatsink and remove from the unit. The cable will have to be disconnected.

4> At the centre of the unit there will be 3 screws in a horizontal line across the centre of the unit; these are spaced evenly across the unit.

5> Close the lid and turn the unit over the unit.

6> There will be four screws along the top of the unit and 2 at the bottom. Also there will be a screw on the hard disk caddy remove this also. Underneath the caddy there will be a small screw in the bottom left corner. Remove this (on occasions there maybe a Q snap sticker covering this.

7> Turn over the unit carefully and whilst holding the upper panel open the unit up. The top cover will try to follow.

8> When open unplug the two wires that are holding the front of the cover (the touchpad and standby switch cables). Lift the cover from the front and lift slowly.

9> Unplug all of the cables that are at the back of the unit and you should have released the upper panel and LCD screen.

10> Unscrew the four bolts like screws using a 5mm socket driver or spanner. Unscrew and release the CD-drive and remove the large bolt screw from the right hand side of the unit.

11> At the top right of the unit there should be a RJ11 connector (modem plug in point) unscrew the screw that affixes this and remove the bolt screw from underneath.

12> At the centre of the bottom part of the board there should be another cable that plugs in also a 4 pin connector with only 2 of them that are in use carefully unplug these as they can be a bit volatile to force. If feeling unconfident use a tiny flat screwdriver to warp the connector slightly unit the plug can be removed without the risk of breaking.

13> Unplug the battery board

14> Now the board should be able to come clear of the unit with a small amount of force. From the front side (the part where the battery board plugs into.

15> Now underneath the board there will be a small connection with a battery inside. You can remove this with your finger or a small screw driver.

16> Replace with CR1220 CMOS battery.

17> Reassemble unit.

A note to all those reading the above.

1) *This is REALLY not easy*

2) Most screws in the Movita chassis are of a specific size and length for there position in the notebook. ie, put them back EXACTLY where they came from - or you risk shorting or damaging the board. It is also very easy to spot when this has been done.

3) Unless you really know what you are doing and are comfortable with the steps involved, don't go ploughing into this and expect the notebook to ever switch on again.....EVER.

Does this also apply to the Movita 270 (bought from Novatech) as mine has never held the time of day clock since new?
