View Full Version : Laptop Turns Itself off when burning DVDs

Recently my laptop (258KA0) has decided to turn itself off halfway through burning DVDs.

I'm guessing it's an overheating problem, but don't know how to fix it.

I've tried updating the AMD drivers, but the laptop doesn't seem to want to accept the Nov 2005 drivers (is stuck on Oct 2004).

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Tim

hi

how old is the unit.

biggest problems with laptops doing this, simply that the CPU heatsink gets clogged up with dust and ****, and stops it doing its job.

Check your event logs first to make sure its not erroring out anywhere before the poweroff.

Does it switch off during any other use or just when burning DVDs? If just burning DVDs try using a different software just in case the software is causing the problem. Otherwise it does sound like it's overheating, as beardyman says check to make sure the fan is clean, if it's still doing it then I suggest you contact tech support as it would then indicate a problem.

Check what your 'Screensaver' time is, and is it a shorter time interval than the DVD burn.

I have known a screensaver trying to cut in causing this.
