The new Titan Notebooks, when the unit is switched from the AC Adaptor to the Battery there desktop colour depth changes from 32bit colour to 16bit colour.

Below is part of an email form our R&D manager (coops).

This is not a fault and is by design

This is new ATI design for the mobility chipset in order to reduce voltage drain by the Graphics adaptor when running on the battery. When you reconnect the AC adaptor the desktop colour depth will switch back to 32bit colour.

Should customer not like this and would like laptop to stay on 32bit colour regardless of AC or Battery power please see below.

First make sure customer has ATI Catalyst Control Centre Installed.
Load ATI Control Centre
Across the Tabs at the top select View and then Advanced Options.
This will change the options in the left hand side menu of the Control Centre from Basic Options to Advanced Options.
There will now be an Option in the Left Hand side Menu called PowerPlay
Select PowerPlay.
Now at this point you have two ways to disable the function. Either untick the box next to "Use Power Play". This will disable powerplay function completely which will stop colour depth changing. Click apply and then OK to close Control Centre.
Or Alternatively you can adjust the sliders to alter Power Play Performance schemes.

When AC Power Play default is set for Optimise Performance. This is OK leave this as is.

High Battery setting (Charged Battery) is set by Default to Optimise Battery, Change this to optimise performance to stop colour depth changing when on battery.
This will stop colour depth changing when Battery has High Charge but not when Low.

Low Battery setting is set by Default to Optimise Battery, Change this to optimise performance to stop colour depth changing when on battery and battery is low Charge.

I would Suggest customer leave Power Play on and changes High Battery Setting to Optimise Performance. This way they get 32 bit colour when battery charge is high but switches to 16bit when there battery is running low.

PLEASE NOTE :- Altering these settings will result in changes to how much power unit consumes from battery. This potentially can reduce the battery run time depending on what is being run on the unit. Therefore default setting is recommended but if customer wish to have 32bit colour on battery they will need to trade off a little bit of battery power for this.
