Hi there,

I have recently had to flash the motherboard to get it to recognise the Samsung SATA HDD- I believe the mobo was only first-gen SATA compliant, so this was a bit of a nightmare. Got there in the end, Installed XP, everything fine. Trouble is, I've now connected a Freecom USB2 250GB External HDD, and if this is ever switched on at the point of booting, the boot sequence fails and all I get is the black screen with a flashing '_' at the top. This forces me to turn off the damned Freecom and re-boot, which is always fine.

This is where it gets tricky, so stay with me. I have my Belkin wifi drivers installed on the Freecom HDD, so STUPIDLY I launched the wifi .exe installation from the Freecom HDD (without copying it to my internal HDD first). This went fine, asked me to re-boot, which I did, WITH THE FREECOM HDD STILL TURNED ON!!!

This caused the familiar black screen/ failed booting, and now whenever I try to boot, it simply says "No hard drive recognised press F1 to continue", and then after pressing F1 it asks for a boot disc, and even with the genuine sata boot floppy disc or even the xp setup boot disc, NOTHING WORKS! So this has me pulling my hair out, I only had the PC working 48hrs!

So if you can make any sense of what I've described, your help would be really appreciated.

Cheers in advance,

Joel
