Been having on-going problems with my Matrix (model 8640) laptop for approx 18 months now. Should have got it sorted while still under warranty.

It repeatedly crashes. Can be from the moment it's switched on or could be in Windows. But after 4-5 reboots it's stable and will work all day without hitch.
I've replaced the battery, hard drive, CPU and memory (5 times) but to no avail.

Finally decided to do a BIOS update last night. Made sure the laptop had settled itself first and then did the upgrade. All going well, old bios deleted, new bios uploaded but 70% of the way through verifying the new Bios the laptop crashed. Now it's DEAD. HELP!

Can the Bios be recovered? And how much would that likely cost? Do you think I would still be left with a crashing laptop?

Product Code - NNB-152
Serial Number - 7055103-019

Model Number - 8640
2nd Serial Number - PNB402061230

Many thanks

Russ

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this fault? My Laptop of the same model has the same starting problem. I have reinstalled XP, which hasn't worked. Is it a general fault with the 8640 laptop build?
