I would appreciate some help.
Newly purchased MSI P35 Platinum MoBo from Novatech's Bristol outlet with E6600 Dual Core processor, MSI Geforce 8600 GTS Passive graphics, 2 GB DDR2 667, SATA HD. All set up nicely in a good Antec Sonata case. (all the components are proven on an old 975x Mobo, which has a USB voltage fault - no its not the Power supply)
The new MoBo posted fine, BIOS setup OK, Mem check OK, recognised SATA HD. Full set of green LEDs.
Fresh install of XP Pro retail on a formatted partition.
Initial load and file copy fine.
Auto reboot... all ok
Setup restarting.... all ok
Installing devices... all ok.
Regional and language setup... all ok.
Personalise settings... all ok.
Key code input.. all ok.
Name, password, date, time zone.. all ok
Install network... all ok.
Perform configuartion, copy files.. all ok.
Installing start menu items..... Ahhhh lock up - blue screen of death!!
I have reached this far with 2 install attempts with one XP Pro install CD and 2 install attempts with a different copy.
All I get is a series of different error codes with no repeatable cause.
So far, the blue screen of death tells me:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
CDFS_FILE_SYSTEM
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
Has anybody got any ideas? Is this a software issue, or a hardware issue?
Inthe mean time I'm going to check the memory - may have a duff stick!

Many thanks for responding. Its a good HDD.

My intent to run a full check on the memory sticks came up trumps Yee Haa!! But it did keep me up late last night.
I found a duff stick with an intermitent fault, replaced it with another known as good and this enabled a full fault free installation.

Moral to the story - check your memory. Pass the message on.
